Sepp van den Berg has barely played for Liverpool (Photo: Getty)
Sepp van den Berg is reportedly set to leave Liverpool this summer after making just four appearances in five years for the Premier League giants.
Arne Slot’s first summer at Anfield has focused more on outgoings that incomings, with Fabio Carvalho, Adrian, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara departing the club.
And it seems the quartet will now be joined by Van den Berg, with The Athletic reporting that Liverpool are close to receiving a £20million offer which matches their valuation of the defender.
The Reds have already turned down bids from Bundesliga sides Mainz and Wolfsburg, the former having previously signed the Dutchman on loan.
But it seems that Brentford have won this race, stepping up their long-standing interest in the player after watching his impressive performances in pre-season.
The Bees are keen on adding a centre-back to their ranks, with the likes of Burnley’s Dara O’Shea and Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodzic also targets.
And Thomas Frank will be hoping his side’s good relations with Liverpool after they signed Carvalho for £27.5m can help sweeten another deal.

Slot was keen to give Van den Berg a chance in pre-season but he was nowhere to be seen in the manager’s first competitive game in charge – the 2-0 win at Ipswich last Saturday.
In fact, the 22-year-old has barely featured for Liverpool since his £4.4m move from PEC Zwolle in 2019.
He made only four appearances under Jurgen Klopp, totalling just 271 minutes, none of which came in the Premier League, though he still has a Club World Cup medal to his name.
Van den Berg still has two years left on his contract and has previously spent time on loan at Preston, Schalke and Mainz.
