Deadline: Reds stars react as defender announces exit on Instagram

Defender finalise deal, announcement soon

Defender undergoing medical after Liverpool agreement to a loan deal

Nathaniel Phillips has moved to Derby County on Loan

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips is set to join Derby County on loan, according to reports by James Pearce. The 27-year-old is currently undergoing his medical with the Championship club ahead of the temporary move. This loan deal does not include an option or obligation to buy, indicating that Phillips remains a part of Liverpool's long-term plans.

Phillips, who earns a reported £65,000 per week, has been with Liverpool since 2016. However, he has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team, mainly due to the competition in the squad. With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Ibrahima Konate ahead of him in the pecking order, Phillips has found playing time hard to come by.

With this move, it appears that Joe Gomez is likely to stay at Anfield despite rumors linking him with a move away. The fact that Gomez was training with the squad, as reported by James Pearce, suggests that he is part of Jurgen Klopp's plans for the season.

Just a few days ago, there were reports linking Gomez with a move to Crystal Palace. However, if Liverpool were willing to let Phillips leave on loan, it indicates that they see Gomez as a crucial part of their squad. Keeping the versatile defender is essential for Liverpool, as it would have left them short at the back with just van Dijk, Quansah , and Konate as the only recognized center-backs.

Liverpool Agrees £12.5m Deal with Juventus for Federico Chiesa

It's official - Liverpool Football Club have successfully negotiated a £12.5 million deal with Italian giants Juventus for the signing of Italian winger Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa

The fee for the 26-year-old is placed at £10 million up front, plus £2.5 million based on his primary team performance, with Liverpool expected to grant him a four year contract at Anfield.

Other clubs had also been reported to be interested in Chiesa, most notably Barcelona who had struggled financially in order to be able to register him. Interest from Saudi Arabia also had poses a great competition to the Reds' negotiations for the winger.

Chiesa was transferred to Juventus in a permanent deal in 2022 following a two year loan at Fiorentina. He participated in 98 games for the club, scoring 21 times.

Analysis of the transfer deal and its implications

The financial aspects of the £12.5 million agreement between Liverpool and Juventus for Federico Chiesa are significant for both clubs. For Liverpool, acquiring Chiesa at this price represents a strategically sound investment, particularly considering his potential and previous performances. The winger's current contract with Juventus valued at around £150,000 a week, and he's valued at £25million transfer fee for the remaining 10 months of his contract. Hence, by negotiating a transfer fee substantially lower than his market worth, Liverpool is capitalizing on Chiesa's reduced status, after failing to sign him 3 years back at his peak during Jurgen Klopp's era. A good deal for both clubs!

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cheeky comment says a lot amid ongoing Liverpool contract wait

Perhaps the biggest transfer question facing Liverpool following an impressive second-half showing at Ipswich Town is how the club will handle the expiring contract of its key stars.

Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have thrilled and inspired Premier League audiences in recent years. However, that could all be about to change in only a year when the trio’s contracts are currently set to expire.

If the Reds feel they need reinforcements now – they’re in for quite the shock should all three players call time on their illustrious Anfield careers in the summer of 2025.

There’s a question, some might feel inclined to argue, to be asked about the longevity of Mo Salah who will turn 33 next June. However, the Egyptian King put up a strong rebuttal to suggestions he’s past his best in a superb outing in Suffolk this weekend.

When all’s said and done, Liverpool fans want the reliability and reputability of the No.11 to call on – just the same as those who love a dabble with the odds want the most reputable crypto casino sites available at the tip of their fingers.

Follow Empire of the Kop on Instagram (@empireofthekop) HERE

It’s a particularly salient point, however, when it comes to the future of our vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool would be foolish not to secure Trent on fresh terms

Trent Alexander-Arnold at Portman Road – (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

At 25 years of age, the right-back isn’t plagued with the same questions faced by Van Dijk and Salah over their longevity in the game.

There’s not a doubt in any serious commentator’s mind that our No.66 will continue to shine at the top of the sport for many a year to come.

Just look at the quality of his passing in our 2-0 victory over Kieran McKenna’s men! It’s a staple of the Scouser’s game that won’t decline with age.

The only question that remains is what Liverpool – and more specifically Richard Hughes – are doing to convince the footballer that Anfield should be his home for the long-term.

Money, realistically, shouldn’t even come into the picture. Trent’s a world-class, generational operator who has changed how we perceive and judge modern fullbacks. He’s the vice captain and has been earmarked to take over the captain’s armband from our Dutch No.4 in future.

He should be at the front and centre of Arne Slot’s project – even if he’s unlikely to now literally play centrally for Liverpool moving forward.

Any hints from Trent on his Liverpool future?

The England international has indicated that he’s perfectly relaxed over his future.

The Daily Star relayed a report from the Liverpool Echo covering a brief interaction between journalists and Trent Alexander-Arnold after our 2-0 win at Portman Road.

The Academy graduate was spotted grinning at reporters before cheekily saying, “I don’t know what you’d possibly want to speak to me about!”

At the very least, it’s good to know that the issue of his Liverpool future isn’t bothering our fullback overly much!

Liverpool star left out of squad to consider transfer with Chelsea interested

Arne Slot left him out of his squad for the Ipswich game (Picture: Getty)

Joe Gomez was left out of Liverpool’s squad for their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town as he is exploring options to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

The Reds kicked off their new campaign at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon but Gomez did not travel with the group.

The Times report his omission is the result of ‘grown up discussions’ between the defender and Liverpool who are not actively trying to force him out of the club.

Newcastle United explored a deal to sign Gomez earlier in the summer, a proposal which also saw Anthony Gordon offered to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s side are still interested with Chelsea also named among the clubs who have shown interest in Gomez, along with Aston Villa, Fulham and clubs from abroad.

Gomez is considering his future on Merseyside, mulling over whether now is the right time to take on a new challenge where he will receive more regular first-team opportunities.

Arne Slot named Jarell Quansah in his starting XI alongside Virgil van Dijk to take on Ipswich with the academy product a growing influence at the back.

Ibrahima Konate is also an option at the back, named among the subs today.

Liverpool valued Gomez at £45million during their talks with Newcastle earlier in the summer.

The Magpies have since turned their attention to Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, but have so far been frustrated in their attempts to sign the Londoner with Palace rejecting four bids for his services – the latest believed to be in the region of £65million.

Should Gomez not leave the club this month, Slot will integrate him back into the squad.

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch expressed his surprise over Saturday’s development. ‘He is a great man to have around the squad,’ he said.

‘You look at the injuries last year, players had to come in and cover and he has given a great account of himself but maybe it is his decision to move on.’

Liverpool are still to make a major addition to their squad this summer, with Slot operating with the same group he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi was their prime summer target but the Spain international last week rejected move to Anfield.

Arne Slot breaks silence on Luis Diaz agreement to join Man City from Liverpool

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has issued a response to reports that Luis Diaz has agreed to join Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

El Chiringuito reported on Tuesday afternoon that the Colombia international has agreed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions.

The report adds that City are ready to pay €70 million (£59.8m) for the 27-year-old, although Liverpool sources claim that the club haven’t received an approach.

Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, has now issued a response to the reports that have emerged from Spain over his talented player.

Quizzed about the Diaz speculation, Slot said: ‘When I walked in, the whole day is about talking about football, it’s no surprise I hear speculation about Diaz.

‘Is there anyone we don’t talk about? His future is with us. I like a lot of what I saw. He has had a big impact on Liverpool and I hope he has one for the coming season.’

Meanwhile, Slot has publicly defended Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, who has been slammed by the club’s fans recently over transfers.

Cesc Fabregas addresses rumours that Manchester City have agreed deal for Liverpool star Luis Diaz

Liverpool star Luis Diaz has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City this summer (Picture: Getty)

Cesc Fabregas says Luis Diaz would be an ‘unbelievable’ signing for Manchester City and may ‘make the difference’ for an already ‘outstanding’ team this season.

Brazilian winger Savinho, 20, remains City’s only signing of the summer transfer as it stands, with just over a fortnight to go until the deadline.

But City bosses are relaxed about the situation on the back of four straight Premier League titles and the club got their campaign off to a perfect start with victory over Manchester United in the Community Shield last weekend.

However, reports emanating out of Spain this week suggest the English champions are exploring an ambitious move for Liverpool forward Diaz, with the 27-year-old Colombian said to have agreed a switch to the Etihad.

It’s claimed City are preparing to test Liverpool’s resolve with a €70million (£59.8m) offer for Diaz.

Previewing the season on the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas said City had all the ‘quality’ to win a fifth consecutive title, with the potential arrival of Diaz only likely to improve their chances.

Asked if City can lift the trophy again this term, the ex-Arsenal and Spain midfielder replied: ‘Can they do it? Of course they can do it in terms of the quality they’ve got. They have an outstanding team.

Fabregas believes Diaz would be an ‘unbelievable’ signing for City (Picture: Getty)

‘You hear the rumours about Luis Diaz. Can they achieve that signing? I think it would be unbelievable.

‘Another top-quality player to make the difference.

‘I still think Arsenal, as I said last year and they got very, very close, they will be the team to look out for in the Premier League once again this year with Manchester City.’

Fabregas is ‘curious’ to see how Liverpool fare under new head coach Arne Slot and believes the Merseyside giants could do with adding a few ‘top-level’ players to their squad.

He added: ‘Liverpool, I’m curious. Everyone talks so well about the new manager and I really want to see what they are about this year, if they can sign some top-level players to increase the quality of the squad.

‘At the moment, I’m looking at these three teams to be fair and then let’s see how the season starts and if someone gets into the mix.’

Pep Lijnders raids former club Liverpool for highly-rated teenage prospect

Bobby Clark is set to swap Liverpool for Salzburg (Picture: Getty Images)

Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has plundered his former club and agreed to sign teenage prospect Bobby Clark for Red Bull Salzburg.

The Dutch coach left Anfield at the end of last season after a spell as Jurgen Klopp’s assistant and took over the top job at the Austrian side.

He has been quick to return to the Reds to make a signing, bringing Clark to Austria on a permanent deal.

The BBC report that a £10m deal has been agreed with Liverpool having a 17.5 per cent sell on fee as and when the teenager leaves RB Salzburg.

Clark, who is the son of former Newcastle player Lee, has already made 14 appearances in the Liverpool first team under Klopp.

The England Under-20 international played six times in the Premier League and scored his only goal for the Reds in a Europa League win over Sparta Prague.

While clearly the Austrian Bundesliga is a significant step down from the Premier League, RB Salzburg are in the Champions League this season so the young Englishman will be involved in the top tier of European football.

Lijnders’ side edged past Twente in a dramatic qualifying round, winning 2-1 at home before a 3-3 draw in Netherlands on Tuesday night.

Next up is a two-legged play-off with Dynamo Kiev, which Clark will hope to be involved in.

Liverpool lack summer transfers, and will miss Jurgen Klopp, but Arne Slot can push Premier League title rivals

Arne Slot is tasked with maintaining Jurgen Klopp’s success at Anfield (Picture: Getty Images)

Manchester United have had a tough time replacing Sir Alex Ferguson after he retired at the end of his distinguished career and Arsenal experienced similar difficulties after Arsene Wenger called time on his remarkable reign in N15, so all eyes will be on Arne Slot as he tries to fill Jurgen Klopp’s boots at Anfield.

It’s a tall order as the German coach was in charge at Liverpool for nine successful years, winning both the Champions League and Premier League trophies among other worthy triumphs as he carved his name alongside the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish and so many other legendary managers in the rich folklore at the famous club.

Klopp’s final season saw the Reds win the Carabao Cup and they were on course to scoop four pieces of silverware before faltering down the home straight.

They finally finished third in the league, nine points behind defending champions Manchester City and were a victim of their own success as a heavy workload took its toll.

Last year could still be regarded as something of a transitional one with Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and James Milner among the players who departed for new adventures after giving such sterling service to the club.

And despite a lack of high-quality recruits this summer the Reds still look better placed to finish in the top four than the majority of their rivals.

They finished 14 points ahead of Aston Villa, who filled the final Champions League berth in May with Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle also in their shadow.

Keeping Mohamed Salah at Anfield is key but unlike last summer there has been no real indication he will be poached by one of the Saudi Arabian clubs happy to splash their cash on star names.

Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and youngsters like Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah and Curtis James should also all make improvements to their play this term.

Cody Gakpo can enjoy a fruitful season in the Premier League (Picture: AMA/Getty Images)

Liverpool still look a shade short of the impeccable standards set by Manchester City and Arsenal so only diehard fans will be lumping on them to win the title at 7/1 with Ladbrokes, Coral and bet365 but they are definitely worth an each-way wager in Sky Bet’s handicap market where they are 16/1 to finish top with a +9 point start.

• Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Rotherham and Gillingham form Saturday’s Football League acca.

• The FedExCup play-offs commence with the first of three tournaments being staged at Southwind in Memphis this week. Olympic silver medallist Tommy Fleetwood was tied third last year and appeals at 18/1 with bet365 in their top-ten each-way market.

Russell Henley, a solo fifth in The Open at Royal Troon, was T6 with Corey Connors in this event 12 months ago while three-time FedEx winner Rory McIlroy is an e/w certainty. They are 20/1, 25/1 and 17/2 respectively with the same firm.

Liverpool legend voices concern over club’s transfer activity

Why Martin Zubimendi U-turned and rejected £51,000,000 Liverpool transfer despite ‘giving them his word’

Liverpool legend voices concern over club’s transfer activity

There is yet to be a new signing at Liverpool since Arne Slot arrived as manager (Picture: Getty Images)

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is surprised and concerned that the Reds have been so quiet in the transfer market this summer, with no new arrivals so far during the window.

There certainly has been change at Anfield this summer with iconic manager Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool, replaced by Arne Slot.

There have also been some notable departures from the squad, with Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara leaving on free transfers, while Fabio Carvalho has been sold to Brentford.

However, no new signings have been brought in, and while it would be very surprising if the transfer window closed with no new arrivals, former captain and manager Souness is shocked that no one has been bought yet.

‘It surprises me that Arne Slot hasn’t brought any players in because you would anticipate that he’d want to,’ Souness said on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan.

‘Irrespective of the change of guard, he will be judged against Klopp and he will hear Klopp’s name being sung with banners of Klopp being shown all over the stadium until a time when he can eclipse it and put his own foot print on the club.

‘You would think he’d want his own players. I think the players proved to not be where we thought they were at the end of last season as I thought they would carry Klopp home to do something meaningful and they didn’t seem able to.’

Graeme Souness is not convinced by Liverpool’s lack of transfer activity (Picture: Getty Images)

The Reds are certainly in the market for players, coming close to bringing in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but the Spanish midfielder ultimately turned them down.

Souness is expecting huge changes at the club next summer, anticipating that both Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will be tempted away by big money in Saudi Arabia.

‘For Van Dijk and Mo Salah – particularly Salah – Saudi Arabia has got to be attractive,’ said Souness. ‘Maybe he’s going to play another year and Van Dijk, at his age, maybe he’s thinking that.

Mohamed Salah could well be playing his last season at Liverpool (Picture: Getty Images)

‘For Trent [Alexander-Arnold], would money be the biggest thing? No, given his age and the fact that he’s a scouser and if it was up to me he’d stay a bit longer.

‘But the other two this might be their last year with their contracts running out. The lure of playing in Saudi Arabia will be enormous when you get to the wrong side of 30.

‘If this is the last year of their contracts, I imagine they are running their contracts down to get the biggest payday they can possibly get.’

Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to sign ‘frightening’ Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon has been linked with Liverpool this summer (Picture: Getty)

Jamie Carragher has encouraged Liverpool to reignite their pursuit of Anthony Gordon, claiming the England winger would add a ‘frightening’ new dimension to Arne Slot’s attack.

Liverpool are yet to make any additions to their first-team squad since Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp as head coach back in May, with the new Premier League season just three days away.

But the Merseyside giants are working behind the scenes to strengthen before the transfer deadline and had appeared on the verge of signing Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

However, widespread reports suggest Zubimendi has turned down a switch to Anfield to remain with Sociedad for the forthcoming campaign and it appears the Reds must explore other avenues for reinforcements.

Earlier this summer, Liverpool were credited with a strong interest in Newcastle forward Gordon, with the club keen to find a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract in 12 months’ time.

A potential swap deal involving Gordon and Joe Gomez was mooted as a possible option for Liverpool but these rumours have cooled in recent weeks.

‘That was a transfer that I would like to have seen go through,’ ex-Liverpool defender Carragher told Blood Red: Liverpool FC.

The England winger swapped Everton for Newcastle in January 2023 (Picture: Getty)

‘If there was still something in that between now and the end of the window, that’s something I would be really interested in us doing.

‘Whether that’s just Anthony Gordon or that’s Joe Gomez being involved, because I think Joe is probably at that stage now where he probably wants first-team football.

‘I’m not sure he will ever get that at Liverpool.’

Carragher feels Liverpool are lacking serious pace in attack (Picture: Getty)

Carragher would welcome a move for Gordon as he feels Liverpool are lacking ‘blistering’ speed in their attacking ranks.

‘I think the reason why Anthony Gordon’s name has probably come up and why Liverpool are interested is that I think there’s only Nunez in the attack now who has blistering pace,’ he added.

‘Salah’s obviously not as quick as he was, of course he’s not, and I don’t think Diaz has got that pace. I go back to [Sadio] Mane…

Salah has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield (Picture: Getty)

‘I think Anthony Gordon’s pace is frightening, I do. You know when you’re watching a game on TV and you go, “Wow!”, and you just see someone leave a full-back.

‘That’s what I think he could add if that was the case, if he was to come in and maybe Liverpool were interested.

‘I think it’s that pace, Mane’s pace basically. I do think we lack that in the attack.’

On the prospect of Gordon scoring against Everton at Goodison Park, Carragher replied: ‘I would love it!’

Slot’s Reds open their Premier League campaign against newly promoted Ipswich (Picture: Getty)

While Liverpool are still yet to get bring in any new signings, Carragher is ‘not worried at all’ and has ‘great belief’ that the right decisions are being made by those in charge.

‘I’ve got no criticism at all of the football operations. Listen, everyone has been crying to get Michael Edwards and his team back,’ the former England centre-back continued.

‘Michael is in a slightly different role now and they’ve obviously got Richard Hughes in there but they’ve obviously got a great relationship.

‘Any deal that’s going on at Liverpool, in or out, I’m sure Michael Edwards is all over it as well and getting Richard Hughes accustomed to the club and how things work.

‘I’m not worried at all and I always have great belief in what we do behind the scenes, with the ownership and the football operations, that we’re very clinical.

‘You only have to see that with the deal done with Carvalho, which is a great deal for us in terms of him going out and the money that we’ve brought in.’

Why Martin Zubimendi U-turned and rejected £51,000,000 Liverpool transfer despite ‘giving them his word’

Martin Zubimendi will NOT move to Liverpool (Photo: Getty)

Martin Zubimendi went back on his word and turned down the chance to sign for Liverpool, a decision that has reportedly ‘angered’ the club’s hierarchy.

The defensive midfielder has long been on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich heavily linked.

Last week, it was reported that Liverpool had entered the race for the Euro 2024 winner, with Arne Slot hoping to make him his first signing for the club.

The Reds had begun talks over personal terms and had informed the 25-year-old that they were ready to activate his €60million (£51.3m) release clause – they just needed the go ahead from the player to do so.

And it seemed that he had done so as the Mail report that Zubimendi had given Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes his word that he wanted to move to Anfield.

But in a shock twist, the Spaniard has now turned down Slot and co. in favour of remaining at Real Sociedad.

It is said that he was convinced to U-turn after Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil went on the charm offensive to persuade him to stay, which included making a presentation on the ‘good food options in the Basque region and Zubimendi’s hobby of hiking up Mount Ulia’.

Liverpool are ‘angry’ about Zubimendi’s U-turn (Photo: Getty)

Zubimendi has always spoken of his love and loyalty toward his boyhood club which also made it hard for him to leave, while Alguacil also reminded him that the fans would be upset after he previously said he wished to stay at the club.

Additional reports from Fabrizio Romano claim that the player is now open to signing a new deal with Sociedad even though their opening contract offer is far below what Liverpool had offered him.

None of this has pleased Liverpool unsurprisingly, with Hughes ‘angry’ at the situation, especially with the new Premier League season just days away.

The No.6 position had been a problem area for new manager Slot during pre-season, a problem Zubimendi would have no doubt solved.

Slot will make his Liverpool debut on Saturday when his side travel to newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Liverpool give deadline to Martin Zubimendi ahead of £51.7m transfer

Liverpool have reportedly given Martin Zubimendi a set date to decide whether he wants to move to Anfield (Picture: Getty Images)

Liverpool have issued an ultimatum to their top transfer target Martin Zubimendi to make a decision over his future.

Arne Slot is keen to bring in a new central midfielder for the No. 6 role and has identified the Real Sociedad star as his preferred choice.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, the 25-year-old is yet to commit on a move to Anfield and previously said during Euro 2024 that he’s happy to stay in Spain.

But with the start of the new Premier League season now just a matter of days away, Liverpool have given Zubimendi a strict deadline to make a final choice over whether he wants to join the club.

The Reds have told the European Championship winner he has until Wednesday to give them ‘a yes or no’, according to San Sebastian-based media outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa.

Both La Real and Liverpool are said to be doing ‘everything in their power’ to convince Zubimendi, but Sociedad’s position is made even more difficult by fellow teammate Mikel Merino’s expected move to Arsenal.

Real Sociedad are bracing themselves to lose both of their key central midfield players who helped them qualify for the Europa League after finishing sixth in La Liga last season.

Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi have both been linked with moves away from Real Sociedad (Picture: Getty Images)

The club’s communications department has even cancelled interviews with all of its players until the futures of Zubimendi and Merino are resolved.

They are reluctant to sell either player, although it’s thought they would be willing to let one go if they can guarantee keeping the other.

Sociedad’s stance has created a heightened sense of urgency for Liverpool to reach a conclusion either way so they can explore other options before the transfer window closes if Zubimendi stays in the Basque country.

Another potential stumbling block is the fee being demanded, with Sociedad unwilling to accept anything less than his £51.7m (€60m) release clause.

Zubimendi won Euro 2024 with Spain last month (Picture: Getty Images)

Elsewhere, The Times have reported that Real Sociedad have informed Zubimendi that he would need to trigger his own release clause in order for the move to go ahead.

Zubimendi is said to be torn over the decision to leave and Real Sociedad’s move now puts further pressure on the midfielder.

When asked about Zubimendi on Sunday, Liverpool manager Slot said: ‘You can come up with every name you want to, of course.’

He added: ‘As a club like we are, we are always looking if we can strengthen the squad but it is not so easy to strengthen the squad, if you saw both games today,

‘I said many times before I inherited a real strong team and if we can and if we think it is possible, we will strengthen the squad. But only if we can and only if we think it is possible.’

Liverpool and Tottenham target tipped to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer

Piero Hincapie was in action for Ecuador in the Copa America this summer (Picture: Getty Images)

Versatile defender Piero Hincapie has been tipped for a move away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with both Liverpool and Tottenham having shown great interest in the Ecuadorian.

The 22-year-old has been at Leverkusen since 2021 when he signed from Argentinian side Talleres.

The Ecuador international made 43 appearances last season as Leverkusen sensationally won the domestic double and reached the final of the Europa League.

However, he was not always a regular starter, making just 16 Bundesliga starts in his 26 league appearances.

Sky Germany reports that Hincapie wants to be a more regular starter from now on and is open to leaving Leverkusen to find more opportunities elsewhere.

The report states that there is interest from and talks have been held with ‘top clubs’ but there has been nothing agreed at this stage.

Tottenham made a bid for Hincapie last year while Liverpool held talks over signing the defender in 2023 as well.

Hincapie won the double with Leverkusen last season (Picture: Getty Images)

Hincapie already has 37 caps for Ecuador and was named in the Copa America Team of the Tournament this summer after a run to the quarter-finals and a narrow defeat to Argentina on penalties.

Hincapie was in pre-season action for Leverkusen om Wednesday as the German side was hammered 4-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz scored the goals for the Gunners with Adam Hlozek getting a late consolation.

The Ecuadorian posted on Instagram after the loss: ‘Disappointed by today’s performance, work more and nothing more.’

Liverpool and Tottenham target tipped to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer

Premier League club eye Liverpool star after rejecting chance to sign Arsenal outcast

Reiss Nelson started just one Premier League game last season (Photo: Getty)

Arsenal’s hopes of cashing in on Reiss Nelson have taken a blow after Leicester City pulled out of a deal to sign the outcast winger.

It was reported two weeks ago that Leicester were in talks for Nelson who has struggled for game time at the Emirates, starting just one Premier League match last season.

The Foxes were confident of signing the 24-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy, as they look to ready themselves for their top-flight return after losing manager Enzo Maresca and star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea over the summer.

However, in the last week it was thought that the transfer was on the rocks, with The Athletic now confirming that Leicester have ended their interest in the player.

It is said it became apparent to Steve Cooper’s side that Nelson was ‘beyond their budget’, with Arsenal valuing the player at over £20million, a price tag that has also put off West Ham.

Leicester are working on a tight budget having encountered issues with profit and sustainability rules, and as such have turned their attention to other targets.

Namely, they have looked to young Liverpool duo Fabio Carvalho and Ben Doak.

Carvalho has impressed in pre-season under Arne Slot and after the Reds rejected a £15m bid from Southampton, it seems unlikely that Leicester can afford the attacking midfielder either.

18-year-old Doak may be more attainable, with the Scottish winger extremely highly-rated but not expected to get many minutes in the upcoming campaign.

The Foxes are also said to be leading the race for Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana who is available for either a permanent or loan transfer, though The Athletic’s report adds that they’ll explore alternative targets before making a move.

Leicester’s return to the Premier League begins on August 19, when they host Tottenham.

Liverpool identify £51m Arsenal target as key signing for Arne Slot

Martin Zubimendi is on Liverpool’s midfield shortlist (MB Media/Getty)

Liverpool are targeting a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to reports.

Arne Slot is keen for Liverpool to recruit a new midfielder capable of playing in the No.6 role ahead of the new Premier League season.

Zubimendi, who was part of the Spain squad which won Euro 2024 earlier this summer, has already attracted strong interest from Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta also looking to sign a new central midfielder before the end of the window.

Barcelona have also expressed an interest in the 25-year-old but they are now closing on a €60 million (£51.7m) deal for Dani Olmo.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are looking at a possible deal for Zubimendi but face two key issues.

The first is that Real Sociedad are unwilling to accept anything lower than the midfielder’s €60m (£51.7m) release clause.

Liverpool are also yet to convince Zubimendi over a move to Anfield, with the midfielder making it clear during Euro 2024 that he is happy to stay at Real Sociedad.

Liverpool are yet to secure a major signing this summer but Slot insists the pool of talent who can improve his squad is limited.

‘The bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players,’ said Slot.

‘It is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then is he available? Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us.

‘Richard [Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director] is working hard on it and let’s see what comes from this. If he’s not here with us then we speak on the phone many times.’
