Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on Alisson and Diogo Jota after Liverpool draw at Man City
Jurgen Klopp is sweating on the fitness of Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota amid fears the Liverpool duo could face a spell on the sidelines.
Alisson required treatment on the pitch during the closing moments and following the final whistle of the 1-1 Premier League draw at leaders Manchester City on Saturday afternoon after suffering what appeared a suspected hamstring injury.
Jota had earlier limped off nine minutes into the second half, with the duo now set to undergo scans to ascertain the extent of the damage.
And Klopp said: “The shadow on this game is obviously that Ali felt something and Diogo felt something. That’s something we have to assess. We will see.”
Any extended absence will be a major blow for Liverpool, with the trip to the Etihad the first of 11 games in 38 days during a hectic end to the calendar year.
City goalkeeper Ederson played in the match despite missing out on international duty with Brazil through injury, with Alisson instead featuring twice for his country including the defeat at home to Argentina in the early hours of Wednesday morning UK time.
With Saturday the third time this season Liverpool have resumed after the international break with a 12.30pm kick-off, the goalkeeper had limited recovery time.
And when pressed on his views of such swift turnarounds, Klopp said: “Am I allowed to mention that? I don’t know. But I have no clue where it is coming from (Alisson’s injury). And yes, it is quite unusual but it happens still and it happened to us today.
“Ederson is fit now, he was at home and fine. He played last time (for Brazil in the October international break) two games, so it’s all fair. I hope it’s not that serious but I have absolutely no clue at the moment what it is.
“I spoke to him (Alisson) and he said he only felt it a little bit but we have to wait for the scan.”
