Didi Hamann has urged Liverpool to sign one of Newcastle United’s star players instead of Mason Mount in the summer transfer window.
Mount is likely to leave Chelsea this summer after talks between his representatives and the west London club hit a wall over a contract extension, unless incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino can convince him to stay.
Liverpool were previously ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the 24-year-old, with his current deal at Stamford Bridge due to expire in the summer of 2024, but Manchester United are now thought to be the favourites to land his signature.
Former Liverpool star Hamann has urged his old club to forget about England international Mount and instead turn their attentions to Newcastle’s Joelinton.
The 26-year-old Brazilian moved to Newcastle in 2019 in a £40m move and has impressed under Eddie Howe, registering eight goals and three assists this term.
‘I would not pay the money that Chelsea want for Mason Mount,’ Hamann told Casinos En Ligne.
‘I think the players in midfield are very similar in their technical ability, Liverpool need a bit more of a physical presence.

‘Joelinton from Newcastle United has that physical presence that Liverpool needs, he can nick a goal too.
‘Alexis Mac Allister will be a brilliant signing, but they’ll have to battle Manchester City for his signature.
‘I can’t see Joelinton leaving Newcastle because he is playing Champions League football next season. But a player with his stature and physicality would be great in that Liverpool midfield.’
