Liverpool in talks to sign Bundesliga midfielder for €40-45m

Manu Kone (left) is wanted by Liverpool, Man Utd and PSG this summer (Picture: Getty) Liverpool have reportedly entered talks to sign Manu Kone from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, in a deal that could cost €40-45m. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the 22-year-old Frenchman but Jurgen Klopp’s team appear to be leading the race. According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool have been in contact with Kone’s representatives and have expressed their interest in a summer transfer. Kone has registered 31 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, who finished 10th in the Bundesliga. Borussia Monchengladbach want €40-45m for Kone, who is under contract until 2025, while the German club have the option to extend his deal for a further year. It is believed that Borussia Monchengladbach want to use the fee they receive for Kone to help fund moves for new players in the summer window. It could be a busy summer for Liverpool, who have been linked to several players as they look to return to the top four after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign. Liverpool open talks to sign £52m-rated Nice star but Manchester United could scupper the deal

The Merseysiders are exploring a deal for Khephren Thuram (Picture: Getty) Liverpool have opened talks to sign Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram but the deal could be complicated by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s potential Manchester United takeover, according to reports. The Merseysiders are looking to bring in two central midfielders this summer after withdrawing from the race to sign Jude Bellingham, with manager Jurgen Klopp feeling the transfer budget would be better spent on multiple players rather than just the Borussia Dortmund star. Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister is expected to swap the south coast for Anfield in the coming weeks, with the World Cup winner having a gentleman’s agreement to leave if a suitable offer comes in. The Argentine plays a more offensive, box-to-box role for Brighton and Liverpool are thought to want a slightly more defence-conscious – but still box-to-box – player for their second midfield addition. They have previously been linked with Sporting Lisbon’s holding midfielder Manuel Ugarte, but now French newspaper L’Equipe claim they are pushing for dynamic Nice star Thuram. The 22-year-old, who is the son of legendary French defender Lilian Thuram, has enjoyed a breakout campaign in the south of France and earned a call-up to the senior national team as well as a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season. He netted twice in 30 league starts last season, as well as laying on four assists, but also brings work rate and energy – averaging 2.6 combined tackles and interceptions per match. Thuram has one cap for the France national team (Picture: Getty) A meeting is believed to have already taken place between Liverpool and the player’s entourage, while Thuram is keen to work under Klopp. However, Nice are very reluctant to sell and it would take an offer in the region of €60million (£52m) to bring them to the negotiating table. In a further complication, Nice are owned by Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who are currently in advanced talks to buy Liverpool’s fierce Premier League rivals Manchester United. More: Trending Sergio Aguero names the two teams that will challenge Man City next season Arsenal 'shocked' by William Saliba's contract demands and could be forced to sell Arsenal urged to sign two relegated stars and Declan Rice by Bacary Sagna Although rival Qatari bidder Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has made a last-minute improved bid for a full takeover, Ratcliffe’s offer of a majority stake – which would see two of the Glazer siblings retain their shares – is thought to be the preferred option. The uncertainty surrounding Ineos’ takeover of United could prove to be a stumbling block for any deal that sees Thuram move to Liverpool – certainly in the short term – though if Ratcliffe’s bid is unsuccessful the situation could change. Speaking about his future after making the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, Thuram said: ‘I want to progress, be on the pitch, have fun. For now, I’m at Nice, and that’s going very well, I really like the club, so I still see myself at Nice. I am happy at Nice. There are rumours, I hear them, but I’m happy at Nice and I hope to grow with this club.’ Manchester United target Diogo Costa expected to leave Porto this summer Ander Herrera expects David de Gea to sign new Manchester United contract and hits back at critics For more stories like this, check our sport page. Five clubs Declan Rice could join if he leaves West Ham this summer

Declan Rice is in demand (Picture: Ryan Pierse/Getty Images) The usual cast of Premier League heavyweights are circling around Declan Rice ahead of the opening of this summer’s transfer window. West Ham have privately acknowledged they will have to allow him to leave if their captain requests to leave. However, in such a scenario, the Hammers will demand more than £100 million to part with their star player, who is focusing on West Ham’s upcoming Europa Conference League final before making a decision on his future. Let’s take a look at some of the runners and riders who will likely hot on the heels of one of the Premier League’s biggest stars. Arsenal Arsenal are considered to be the long-term pole sitters in the race for Rice’s signature. Arsenal are desperate for Rice (Picture: Justin Setterfield/Getty Images) According to reports, Rice wants to remain in London and is keen to commit the peak years of his career to Arsenal. The Gunners are preparing a £90 million bid to sign the England international, which is £10 million short of West Ham’s valuation. Arsenal will need to invest in a midfielder this summer anyway, with Granit Xhaka set to join Bayer Leverkusen, while the futures of Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga remain unclear. Manchester United United also have a long-standing interest in acquiring Rice’s services and look set to submit a rival bid to Arsenal’s offer. Earlier in May, United were said to be confident of convincing Rice to snub Arsenal’s advances to instead head to Old Trafford. According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag has made Rice his number one target for the summer transfer window. ten Hag is said to have been particularly impressed by Rice’s performance when the two clubs clashed at the London Stadium in May Chelsea Unsurprisingly, Chelsea are one of the teams who have thrown their name into the hat to land Rice. Rice could be on his way back to Stamford Bridge (Picture: Bryn Lennon/Getty Images) Rice was in the club’s fabled academy before being released as a 14 year-old in 2014. With doubts over the future of existing midfielders N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher, the Blues will likely be keen to bolster their options in the middle of the park ahead of the start of the new season. New boss Mauricio Pochettino would surely be excited at the prospect of pairing Rice with January signing Enzo Fernandez in what would be the most expensive midfield duo in Premier League history. Liverpool Liverpool are planning a big summer rebuild in the transfer market having failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League. If Rice is to be running out at Anfield next summer, Liverpool will almost certainly have to smash their club record transfer fee which is currently the £75m they forked out on Virgil Van Dijk in 2018. But with Jurgen Klopp’s men also eyeing moves for midfielders Mason Mount and Alexis Mac Allister, it remains to be seen whether or not Liverpool would also move for Rice – or if they could even afford him. Bayern Munich Bayern Munich are ready to rival the Premier League interest and have already made a play to bring him to Bavaria, according to reports. Tuchel and Rice could link up in Munich (Picture: Ryan Pierse/Getty Images) Sky Germany claim manager Thomas Tuchel has personally spoken to Rice over the phone in an attempt to convince him to move to the Bundesliga. Rice’s preference is to remain in the Premier League but he said to be ‘open’ to a move to Germany. The conversation between Rice and Tuchel was said to be a ‘good talk’, and although Bayern will look to escalate their efforts in the coming days, they are conscious they may be unable or o compete with the financial might of the Premier League. Roberto De Zerbi expects Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to leave Brighton this summer

Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool this summer (Getty) Roberto De Zerbi expects both Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to leave Brighton this summer. The two midfielders have played a key role in Brighton’s season with De Zerbi’s side securing a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League. Last week, reports in Argentina claimed that Liverpool had agreed a £70 million deal to sign Mac Allister this summer, while the midfielder has already finalised personal terms with Jurgen Klopp’s side. Meanwhile, Arsenal had multiple offers for Caicedo rejected by Brighton in the January transfer window but have retained their interest in the Ecuador international ahead of the summer transfer window. ‘They deserve to change level of team and competition, we have to be happy for them,’ De Zerbi said of Caicedo and Mac Allister after Brighton’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday. Arsenal pushed hard to sign Moises Caicedo in the January transfer window (Getty) ‘We are Brighton and our policy is to help the young players to progress, we can’t keep our best players. That is right, it is our mentality and we have to find more young players.’ In a separate interview with Match of the Day, De Zerbi said: ‘Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo both have been incredible people, incredible players, I am really sorry for them if they will leave but they deserve to play in another level. James Milner confirms Jurgen Klopp wanted him to stay but ‘content’ with Liverpool exit

James Milner is moving on from Liverpool this summer (Picture: Getty Images) James Milner will make his last Liverpool appearance when the Reds take on Southampton on Sunday, despite Jurgen Klopp wanting to keep the veteran at Anfield. The 37-year-old has been with Liverpool since 2015, making over 300 appearances for the club and winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, among others. It has been a hugely successful spell for the England international but it comes to an end when his contract runs out and he will move on at the end of the season. Reds boss Klopp wanted Milner to stay on longer, but the versatile player says the club’s hierarchy felt differently, although he accepts their decision. ‘It’s all good because the manager wanted to keep me – which as a player is what you want,’ he said. ‘Obviously the club decided a different way. In my head it felt like it could be a good time, so I’m content with how it’s all come about ‘It was probably about three weeks ago that I heard from the club. Because I hadn’t heard anything, in my own mind I had probably decided myself that I would be going. ‘I will continue to play football, so yes I could be back in front of the Kop potentially. It’s an option.’ Milner is expected to sign for Brighton and continue his playing career past his 38th birthday which comes round in January. After that he is considering going into management, although admits he is not entirely convinced about the prospect yet, despite earning his coaching badges while he still plays. ‘Some days I think I’d love a go at management – and then other days you see a manager sign a new contract and six weeks later they get sacked,’ he said. ‘That’s when you think “maybe the golf course is a better option!” ‘We’ll see. Doing my badges has helped me learn and I’ve played under some unbelievable managers. ‘I’ve played under some poor ones as well! But you can still learn from them.’ Ruben Amorim speaks out on Chelsea and Liverpool target Manuel Ugarte’s future Why Mason Mount favours a move to Manchester United over Arsenal and Liverpool For more stories like this, check our sport page. Ruben Amorim speaks out on Chelsea and Liverpool target Manuel Ugarte’s future

Manuel Ugarte is expected to make a big move this summer (Picture: Getty Images) There is no shortage of interest in Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte and his manager, Ruben Amorim, doubts that his club will be able to keep hold of him. The 22-year-old has been thoroughly impressive for Sporting since arriving from Famalicao in 2021, shining not only in the Primeira Liga, but gaining experience in the Champions League and Europa League. However, it has been a disappointing league campaign for Sporting as a whole, sitting fourth in the table and set to miss out on the Champions League next season. Amorim admits that this is a big blow for the club in keeping their best players, while it would be an uphill battle anyway given the size of the teams interested in Ugarte. Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain have all been touted as possible destinations for the Uruguayan defensive midfielder, and the Sporting boss knows it is likely one of them will get their man. ‘I cannot comment on this issue, because it is beyond me. Now, we know that it is difficult to keep players like Ugarte,’ Amorim told Ojogo. ‘Not just one club is interested, but several. Our objective is to sell, knowing that we missed the Champions League and it makes everything more difficult. I know what I want for the team and I have already conveyed that to the management.’ Ruben Amorim knows that one of his star men is very likely to leave (Picture: Getty Images) PSG have reportedly already submitted a bid of around £52m for Ugarte, an offer which Chelsea are willing to match. However, there are still question marks over what will happen with the Blues in the transfer market this summer given they are yet to confirm a new manager. Mauricio Pochettino is expected to take over at the end of the season and he will likely have strong views on which players he would like to bring in, and more importantly which of their huge amount of players he would like to keep. Sporting star Manuel Ugarte has clear preference between Chelsea and PSG moves

Both clubs are ready to pay the Uruguayan’s £52m release clause (Picture: Getty) Chelsea appear to have the upper hand in the race to sign Manuel Ugarte with the Sporting midfielder favouring a move to the Premier League, according to reports. The 22-year-old looks set to leave Lisbon in the coming weeks with super-agent Jorge Mendes actively working on securing a swift transfer. Paris Saint-Germain have been laying the groundwork for some time and are prepared to pay Ugarte’s €60million (£52m) release clause, though they are hoping to structure the deal in instalments rather than one up-front fee. But the French champions face competition for the Uruguayan’s signature, with Chelsea prepared to match their offer with a similarly structured deal. There is still potential for other clubs to join the race, with Liverpool holding long-standing interest in the midfielder too, but it is now starting to look like a straight shootout between Chelsea and PSG. That could bode well for the west Londoners, with Portuguese newspaper Record reporting that Ugarte’s preference would be a move to Stamford Bridge over the Parc des Princes. While he is open to moving to Paris and appreciates the interest, it has been his dream to play in the Premier League. Ugarte is very attracted to playing in the Premier League (Picture: Getty) A host of Uruguay’s most celebrated players have played in England, going back to Gus Poyet over two decades ago to the likes of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani more recently. Ugarte feels the Premier League represents a better challenge from a sporting perspective, though he will listen to offers from all interested parties before making a decision. The terms being offered will play a significant part in his thought process too and Chelsea could potentially be trumped by PSG in this respect, with the west London club’s owners preferring to offer smaller wages but longer deals. At a press conference on Thursday, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim conceded it would be ‘difficult to keep’ a player of Ugarte’s quality and appears resigned to losing the midfielder. Ugarte has been scouted extensively by a host of European giants this season, with the Uruguayan putting up some phenomenal numbers; he leads the Portuguese league for successful tackles, making 121 so far, while he has also racked up the most interceptions (57) in the division. Didi Hamann urges Liverpool to sign Newcastle star instead of Mason Mount

Joelinton (right) would be a good option for Liverpool, says Didi Hamann (Picture: Getty) Didi Hamann has urged Liverpool to sign one of Newcastle United’s star players instead of Mason Mount in the summer transfer window. Mount is likely to leave Chelsea this summer after talks between his representatives and the west London club hit a wall over a contract extension, unless incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino can convince him to stay. Liverpool were previously ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the 24-year-old, with his current deal at Stamford Bridge due to expire in the summer of 2024, but Manchester United are now thought to be the favourites to land his signature. Former Liverpool star Hamann has urged his old club to forget about England international Mount and instead turn their attentions to Newcastle’s Joelinton. The 26-year-old Brazilian moved to Newcastle in 2019 in a £40m move and has impressed under Eddie Howe, registering eight goals and three assists this term. ‘I would not pay the money that Chelsea want for Mason Mount,’ Hamann told Casinos En Ligne. ‘I think the players in midfield are very similar in their technical ability, Liverpool need a bit more of a physical presence. Chelsea ready to match PSG’s £52m bid for Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has attracted strong interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (Getty) Chelsea are ready to match Paris Saint-Germain’s €60 million (£52.2m) bid to sign Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to reports in Portugal. The French champions are looking to strengthen their midfield options this summer, while Marco Verratti has been linked with a move away from the club. According to Maisfutebol, PSG‘s €60m (£52.2m) offer was submitted to Sporting via Jorge Mendes last week but while the bid matches Ugarte’s release clause, the Portuguese club can still decline as the French side want to pay in instalments. The report claims that Chelsea are also interested in signing Ugarte this summer and are prepared to offer the same instalment deal as PSG. It’s also understood that Chelsea’s co-owner, Behdad Eghbali, has personally watched Ugarte play for Sporting. Manuel Ugarte has a €60 million (£52.2m) release clause in his contract with Sporting (Getty) Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been heavily linked with the Uruguay international, with reports claiming this month that the club are due to hold talks over a potential move to Anfield this summer. Speaking earlier this month, Ugarte’s agent made it clear that the midfielder is very likely to leave Sporting at the end of the season. ‘It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave,’ Jorge Chijane told O Jogo. PSG agree terms with Chelsea and Liverpool target Manuel Ugarte and set to trigger €60million buyout

The midfielder is on the verge of swapping Lisbon for Paris (Picture: Getty) Chelsea and Liverpool look set to miss out on Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte after Paris Saint-Germain agreed terms with the Uruguayan, according to reports. The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign and has been attracting the attention of a host of clubs around Europe, not least because of his €60million (£52m) release clause. Liverpool are looking to bolster their midfield this summer by bringing in a new destroyer, while Chelsea are also looking to add more steel and solidity to their ranks. Ugarte – whose 121 successful tackles is by far the most in the Portuguese league – felt like a natural fit for both teams, while Aston Villa and Tottenham were also credited with interest. But the Uruguay international looks set to snub a move to the Premier League and, according to French newspaper L’Equipe, is in advanced talks to move to PSG. Transfer chief Luis Campos has identified Ugarte as the ideal signing for the Ligue 1 giants and has been holding talks with the player’s camp for several weeks. PSG want to wrap up a deal as soon as possible and it could be made official in the coming days, with the Parisians prepared to pay the £52m release clause in full. Ugarte impressed against Arsenal in the Europa League (Picture: Getty) Discussions are now very advanced and Ugarte has already verbally agreed terms, with the midfielder keen to move to Paris. PSG expect Ugarte to be their first signing of what could be a very busy summer, with Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez their next target while they also want a new striker and have been linked with the likes of Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Osimhen. Ugarte’s looming move to PSG is a blow for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp having been targeting a defensive midfielder this summer as well as a more creative one. More: Trending Graham Potter closing in on first job since Chelsea sacking Arsenal have £14m bid rejected for Sacha Boey as Galatasaray reveal asking price Paul Scholes names Man Utd star who can replace injured Antony in FA Cup final team The Merseysiders are believed to be in advanced talks to sign Alexis Mac Allister to fill the latter role, with the Argentine having a gentleman’s agreement that he can leave Brighton if a suitable offer is received. Chelsea, meanwhile, are also looking to sign a midfielder with a more defensive profile to sit alongside Enzo Fernandez and may now need to reassess their options. The Blues have long-standing interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo – though the Seagulls rejected several approaches in January – while they might even revisit a move for former academy starlet Declan Rice, though West Ham will demand a British-record fee in excess of £100m. Levi Colwill speaks out on Chelsea future amid links to Premier League rivals

Levi Colwill has hinted he is open to signing for Brighton in a permanent deal (Picture: Getty) Levi Colwill has spoken out on his Chelsea future amid rumours he could move to Brighton, Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham this summer. Colwill, 20, is yet to make his debut for Chelsea but has impressed on loan at Brighton this season, who have enjoyed a fantastic 2022-23 campaign and will play in Europe next term. The England U21 international centre-back has made 21 appearances for the Seagulls and the south coast club are looking to sign him in a permanent deal, although they face competition from Liverpool, City and Spurs. Colwill, though, has admitted he is absolutely loving life at Brighton and is keen to repay the faith they have put in him. ‘Brighton have done a lot for me,’ Colwill told The Athletic. ‘They put their trust in me when others didn’t and I’m a person that loves to repay that. We’ll see. ‘I don’t know what is going to happen (at Chelsea). I’m still here until the end of the season. ‘I just focus on that, then I’ve got the Euros (Under-21 European Championship with England) in the summer. After that, we’ll see what happens and go from there.’ 🚨 Halfway through an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Levi Colwill had to be reminded that he is, in fact, a Chelsea player. â€Å“I forgot for a minute,” Colwill chuckled.#CFC (@AndyNaylorBHAFC & @TheAthleticFC) pic.twitter.com/XTw8aGWVRP— Chelsea Dodgers (@TheBlueDodger) May 25, 2023 Quizzed more generally about his time at Brighton and the club’s playing style, Colwill added: ‘It’s obviously tough work. It’s an amazing feeling and you want to do it again. It’s aggressive and I love it. ‘The changing room is the biggest part. These players are amazing. They are there for you, to put an arm around you, to give you advice, to tell you off. It’s just a perfect balance and I appreciate it so much. Liverpool’s Andy Robertson becomes Real Madrid target as they search for new left-back

Andy Robertson could be the target of a big summer move (Picture: Getty Images) Real Madrid are in the market for a new left-back this summer and have placed Liverpool star Andy Robertson on their list of targets, according to reports. The Spanish giants are coming to the end of a disappointing campaign which has seen them relinquish their La Liga and Champions League titles. They have not been helped by an injury-plagued season for first choice left-back Ferland Mendy, which has seen midfielder Eduardo Camavinga filling in there in recent months. That is not the long-term plan for the position and Real Madrid will be diving into the transfer market this summer to sign a new left-sided defender. The Daily Mail report that Robertson is one of a few targets they have identified for the role, with the Spaniards believing a bid of around £40m and the lure of Champions League football could be enough to tempt the Scot to Madrid. Robertson has been at Liverpool since signing from Hull in 2017 and been superb ever since, quickly making the left-back slot his own and making 267 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup. The 29-year-old has made no signs of wanting to leave Anfield and is under contract until 2026 so even if Real Madrid do come calling, there is no certainty that a deal will be done. Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in Bayern Munich and Canada left-back Alphonso Davies who has a year less than Robertson to run on his contract, but the Bundesliga club insist he is not for sale. There are not just question marks over positions on the field at the Santiago Bernabeu but in the dugout, with Carlo Ancelotti’s position in some doubt after Champions League and La Liga disappointment. There is also interest in the manager from the Brazil national ream, but the Italian has one more year to run on his contract and insists that he will stay, reminding onlookers that the club won the Copa del Rey, Club World Cup and the European Super Cup this season. ‘Everyone knows really well what my situation is: I have contract until the end of the 2024 season and I want to stay,’ he said. ‘It could have been a better season, but it was a good one. Of course, we are not satisfied with La Liga, but we fought to the end in the other competitions … and won three of them.’ Manchester United and Liverpool will challenge Manchester City next season, claims Jamie Carragher Ignore the Liverpool and Arsenal rumours, Mason Mount will stay with Chelsea For more stories like this, check our sport page. Real Madrid wants Andrew Robertson

Real Madrid's interest in Andrew Robertson

Andrew Robertson

Real Madrid have expressed interest in signing Liverpool's left-back Andrew Robertson.

The La Liga giants have identified Robertson as a potential target, with the Scottish defender being valued at around €45-50 million.

Negotiations for Robertson's transfer fee would likely be a key factor in any potential deal and Real are preparing a £40 million bid for the left-back .

Robertson's potential transfer to Real Madrid would be a significant loss for Liverpool, who would need to find a suitable replacement for their star left-back.

The Los Blancos' interest in Robertson suggests that the future of Ferland Mendy at the Bernabeu is in doubt.

Eberechi Eze dismissive of transfer talk amid Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle links

Eberechi Eze has been in superb form of late (Picture: Getty Images) Eberechi Eze has been in the form of his life for Crystal Palace in recent weeks, but he is not being distracted by transfer links to the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle. The 24-year-old has really hit his stride since the return of Roy Hodgson at Palace, scoring six times since the veteran took charge of the Eagles again in late March. That has taken the winger’s league goal tally to 10 for the season, comfortably his best so far in the top flight and there has inevitably been talk of a move to a bigger club. The former QPR talent is under contract at Palace until 2025 so they are under no immediate pressure to sell and he says a summer move is not something that is on his mind at all. ‘I’m not really too bothered about that,’ Eze said of transfer links. ‘I’m just focusing on the present. ‘I want to continue enjoying it and contributing to the team as much as I can. I’m improving every game.’ The Premier League trio of Liverpool, Spurs and Newcastle have all been touted as possible destinations for Eze, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been mooted, such has been his sparkling form of late. It has been a dramatic turnaround for the England Under-21 international as he was not even a guaranteed starter under previous boss Patrick Vieira, and he admits he struggled under the Frenchman. ‘I found it difficult at times,’ he said. ‘As a team we were going through a tough period so that’s natural to lack confidence. Since Roy has come in, it’s given me the freedom to express myself. I’ve obviously played for him before, so I understand exactly what he wants. That’s helped. ‘I feel like I’ve got the freedom to play, to do my thing. Is the Europa League Jurgen Klopp's desire?

It is believed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made winning all competitions with the Reds is his ultimate ambition before he leaves his role at the club. Klopp's latest mission is to ensure that Liverpool is well-equipped to quickly return to Europe's elite competition and despite the Reds' recent struggles in the Premier League, Klopp remains determined to win a European place.

With the possibility of Liverpool missing out on Champions League qualification, Klopp's focus has shifted to the Europa League, which he sees as a crucial opportunity to add a new title to his Liverpool rich history .

The Europa League has played a significant role in Liverpool's history, having won the competition three times, reaching the finals most recent being in 2016.

Despite the impending disappointment of missing out on Champions League qualification, Klopp remains optimistic about Liverpool's future and their chances in the Europa League. Klopp has stated that Liverpool will embrace life in the Europa League if they secure a top-six finish in the Premier League with the boss's desire to win all competitions with the Reds.

The Europa League could be the perfect opportunity for the German to add another new silverware to his collection and continue his legacy as one of the most successful managers at Anfield.

As the Merseyside club look to the future, they will undoubtedly miss the contributions of Firmino, Milner, and the other departing players. However, the farewell celebrations have shown that their legacy will live on at Anfield.

Timber has now confirmed that he will sit down and assess his options in the summer, though he is not opposed to remaining at Ajax – even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League – and has already spoken to the club’s new football director Sven Mislintat. Speaking to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, he said: ‘I met him here at De Toekomst [Ajax’s training ground] and then we spoke briefly and one-on-one. ‘He spoke longer with my agent. As far as I know, Ajax wants to keep me here. ‘Other than that, it is difficult for me to say anything about it. Conversations about this will follow soon.’ Timber will discuss his options with his agent in the summer (Picture: Getty) On the rumoured battle to sign him among some of Europe’s biggest clubs, Timber continued: ‘I’m now in the same situation as last year. ‘I don’t know yet if I’m going to make that step now. I’m glad I’m at Ajax. You can always show yourself here. ‘It’s not like I’m gone if we don’t play the Champions League. Ajax remains Ajax. Jurgen Klopp's reaction to FA punishment

Jurgen Klopp expected harsher punishment from FA

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his expectations for a harsher punishment following his conduct during their 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur on April 30.

The Football Association (FA) confirmed that Klopp had been charged with "improper conduct" for his behavior during and after the match against Tottenham.

Klopp was aware of the consequences of his actions and anticipated a more severe punishment. The Liverpool boss had previously received a touchline ban earlier in the season for his comments about Manchester City, and referees' chiefs were willing to share the audio of his outburst, leading to a potential second touchline ban.

Now the Liverpool manager will  be fined 75,000 and suspended from the touchline for two games, one for his celebration in the face of the fourth official, the other for his post-match comments about referee Paul Tierney. His second suspension is reserved until the end of the 2023-24 season under conditions that he does not commit further breaches.

Jurgen Klopp's stance on Caoimhin Kelleher's potential departure from Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher
Caoimhin Kelleher is linked with Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that only 'an extraordinary offer' would see goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher leave the club this summer.

The recent reports of Tottenham's interest in Kelleher have sparked rumors of his potential departure from Anfield. However, Klopp has emphasized that Kelleher is an important part of his squad and that he has no intention of letting him go unless a substantial offer is made. Klopp's stance on Kelleher's future at Liverpool suggests that he values the young goalkeeper's potential and sees him as a crucial member of the team.

Kelleher has played a significant role in Liverpool's recent successes, including his heroics in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in 2021, which earned him praise from Klopp. Kelleher's performances have also seen him overtake Adrian as Liverpool's understudy for first-choice goalkeeper Alisson. Klopp's trust in Kelleher's abilities is evident in the fact that he has been given opportunities to play in important matches, such as the penalty shootout against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2022. Kelleher's potential and development are clearly highly valued by Klopp, making it unlikely that he would let him leave the club easily.

Despite reports suggesting that Kelleher is seeking a move away from Anfield in search of more first-team opportunities, Klopp's trust in the young goalkeeper's abilities and potential development suggest that he is an integral part of Liverpool's plans for the future. Klopp's insistence on an 'extraordinary offer' for Kelleher also highlights the importance of the goalkeeper to the team's success.

The Liverpool manager told reporters: "He has a contract. You want us to say goodbye (to Adrian) just in case?

"Honestly, I can't see Caoimh leaving. It must be an extraordinary offer for me to start thinking, I have to say."

Klopp added: "Adrian, if we don't say goodbye, what could that mean? That he probably stays. If nothing in the papers, then it's not decided yet, finally.

"We will not do, just in case, but I have a rather good feeling that we will keep working in that position."

Rumors of Manchester United's interest in Mane

Sadio Mane in Manchester United's radar?

Recent rumors have emerged regarding Manchester United's interest in signing Sadio Mane, former Liverpool star and current Bayern Munich winger.

Reports from reliable sources suggest that Manchester United have registered their interest in Mane and could potentially make a move for him in the upcoming transfer window. These rumors have caused a stir among fans and experts alike, with many speculating on the potential backlash Mane could attract from Liverpool fans regarding the heavy rivalry  between the two clubs.

Mane's performance and potential suitability for Manchester United have also been a topic of discussion. Despite a somewhat lackluster season at Bayern Munich, Mane remains a highly skilled and versatile player with a proven track record of success in the Premier League. His pace, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring prowess make him a potential asset for Manchester United's attacking line-up. However, questions remain regarding his fit within Manchester United's current system and playing style.

The potential transfer fee and contract details of Mane's move to Manchester United have also been a point of speculation. While no official figures have been released, it is expected that Mane's transfer fee could be in the range of £50-60 million.

As the transfer window approaches, fans and experts will be eagerly anticipating any updates on Mane's potential move to Manchester United and Liverpool fans would love to see the Senegalese move elsewhere or stay put at Bayern.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi clarifies comments about Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo

The Italian had previously seemed resigned to losing his star men (Pictures: Getty) Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has backtracked on comments he made about in-demand duo Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister and says it is not a forgone conclusion that they will leave. The high-flying Seagulls are battling to secure European qualification and picked up a superb result against Arsenal on Sunday, winning 3-0 at the Emirates to dash the Gunners’ title hopes. Caicedo and Mac Allister – who both impressed at the World Cup – have stood out, with the Ecuadorian linked with Arsenal and Chelsea while the Argentine is rumoured to be on Liverpool’s radar. Speaking straight after the win over Arsenal, De Zerbi seemed to suggest he was already resigned to losing the pair, telling Sky Sports: ‘For sure we will lose some players, maybe Caicedo and Mac Allister.’ But he has now clarified those comments and says it is not certain the duo will leave, though Brighton are bracing themselves for potential summer raids and have plans in place to deal with any exits. Asked if Brighton fans should accept that they may be seeing the pair play their final games for the club, De Zerbi hit back: ‘No, I didn’t say it like this! ‘I said that it could be the possibility to lose some big players, like Caicedo maybe, Mac Allister, [Kaoru] Mitoma… I don’t know. Brighton are braced for big offers for Mac Allister and Caicedo (Picture: Getty) ‘But we are Brighton and I know the policy of our club – my club – and we have to be ready to bring in other good players with the right characteristics, the right condition of our club.’ One such player might be Mahmoud Dahoud, whose Borussia Dortmund contract expires this summer and is rumoured to be close to joining Brighton on a free transfer. De Zerbi stopped short of confirming any deal, but he certainly intimated that negotiations were progressing: ‘I know very well Dahoud but it is not official. At the moment, it is not official yet and we will speak about him later in the next press conference.’ More: Trending Arsenal star tells Mikel Arteta he wants to leave this summer Manchester United agree personal terms with £51m transfer target Jack Grealish overtakes Frank Lampard's 15-year Champions League record When it was suggested that the deal sounds very close, the Italian coach added: ‘Yes because we have no secrets. But he’s not my player yet and I have to speak only [about players at the club].’ Brighton are next in action on Thursday night at St James’ Park against Newcastle United, who are trying to wrap up a Champions League place themselves. Danny Murphy ‘can’t see’ Liverpool signing £373k-p/w star even though ‘the fans would take him’

Danny Murphy believes that Liverpool won’t seek to bring Sadio Mane back to Anfield because of the number of forwards already at the club.

The Senegal star spent six years with the Reds before departing for Bayern Munich last summer, but a troubled first season in the Bundesliga – involving an altercation with Leroy Sane and a hefty fine – has seen him linked with a return to the Premier League (Sky Sports Germany).

While the 46-year-old reckons that many Kopites would welcome the £373k-per-week attacker (FBref) back to Merseyside, he doesn’t envisage a second LFC coming for the African.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “I think the fans would take him, but you would have to get rid of someone They have five forwards, or six even, and that is a huge chunk of their budget on a player and position they don’t need. They need midfielders. So I can’t see it.”

READ MORE: When did Brendan Rodgers’ 33 signings leave Liverpool and what have they done since?

Having cost £35.1m from Liverpool last year (The Mirror), Bayern may be seeking to recoup a similar amount if they offload Mane, and the logic of paying that to bring a 31-year-old back to the club would seem questionable in the long run.

The Senegalese star was superb at Anfield, ending his time here with 120 goals in 269 appearances (Transfermarkt), but even that mightn’t guarantee him a place in the team if he were to reunite with the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp already has Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo in his attack for next season, with the latter three all accustomed to playing in Mane’s favoured left-sided position.

By contrast, with Liverpool confirming the exits of three current midfielders yesterday, squad depth in that area of the pitch will be much sparser unless at least a couple of signings are made.

We can see why Murphy is doubting the likelihood of a second coming at Anfield for the 31-year-old, even if the forward’s previous heroics on Merseyside would guarantee him a fond welcome back.
