Liverpool are on the lookout for a new Sporting Director after Julian Ward confirmed he will be leaving Anfield
Liverpool are planning a busy summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp openly admitting that big changes will be at Anfield and some action is expected in the summer.
The Reds are looking behind the scenes for a new face after Julian Ward confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the season. The announcement came as a surprise to Kop owners, including head coach Jürgen Klopp.
Ward replaced the highly regarded Michael Edwards just a few months ago and the smooth transition is seen as a huge boon for the future of the club. But Ward is now set to take on a role at Ajax ahead of a huge summer transfer window on Merseyside.
Reports from France suggest Monaco's Paul Mitchell is within Ward's position, while GFFN claims initial talks are underway.
Mitchell, meanwhile recently confirmed he wants an exit from Monaco and will resign when the club's president deems the process complete.
“Yes! It was a very difficult decision," Mitchell told Nice Matin when asked if rumours about his plans to leave were true.
“I loved my experience at this club. I have always felt a lot of support from President Dmitry Rybolovlev and the Principality. But I have spent a lot of time away from home and my loved ones in recent years. I feel that the mission I had, which was to rebuild the sports project, has been fulfilled.”
He added: “I have to find my successor, accompany him in his first steps in Monaco and guide him until we consider with the president that it is time to step back. We want the transition to be as smooth and consistent as possible.”
