Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was on the stands at Anfield as his former club suffered a record-breaking loss to Liverpool
Sunday's 7-0 defeat put Erik ten Hag's side back together - seven days after a landmark Carling Cup victory led by the Dutch boss.
Just days before the Anfield kicked off, Ten Hag made it public that Ferguson was in the cup final at Wembley where they won Newcastle United 2-0.
"I think he was happy with the performance, he was happy Manchester United is winning and he's hoping more wins and more trophies are coming in," the Dutchman told Sky Sports.
Ten Hag added: "I enjoy it [Ferguson's presence]. "It's inspiring to have a big inspirator like him - a man, a personality, who won everything. So he knows what winning is, he knows the culture of winning. To talk with him about that, to learn, but also for the players, I think it's inspiring to have him around."
Sunday's Premier League thrashing of the Red Devils is the worst defeat the Manchester club have ever suffered. The lowest point for legendary Ferguson was a 6-1 loss at home to Manchester City in 2011.
Sir Alex Ferguson watched from the stands, shook his head in disbelief as his old club conceded seven at Anfield. Cody Gakpo came in from the left in the first 45 and opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, leaving United trailing 1-0 at half-time. However, in a way few could have predicted, six more goals followed the restart, with four coming in the final half-hour against a troubled United defense.
But there are already plenty of positives for United under Ten Hag as the club strives to finish in the top four after finishing sixth last season.
The Anfield battering would go on as one of the nightmarish moments to be remembered by the last man to lead his club to the Premier League title.
