Lawyer will receive better wages per week than Kevin de Bruyne as City set to defend 100 financial regulations charges by the Premier League
British football has been shaken up this week by a blockbuster news about Manchester City, but the Premier League champions have already taken their first step.
On Monday, the Premier League issued a statement confirming it had referred City to an independent committee to deal with more than 100 allegations of financial breaches.
The final outcome of the investigation could have serious consequences for Pep Guardiola's employers, but the Manchester club have used their considerable wealth to take the first step.
There is no irony in the fact that City have hired Lord Pannick KC to represent her defense. Pannick, a member of the Blackstone Chambers group, has been widely described as " one of the finest lawyers of his generation".
Not surprisingly, this type of billing comes with considerable costs. The lead lawyer charges £10,000 an hour and City can pay him over £400,000 a week while the case is ongoing, putting him at better earnings than the team's skipper Kevin de Bruyne.
