Darwin Nunez was forced off the pitch in Liverpool's win over Newcastle on Saturday
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool forward Darwin Nunes will need further assessment after he was substituted in the Reds' 2-0 win over Newcastle United with a shoulder injury.
Nunez who landed awkwardly on his shoulder was forced off the pitch and was replaced by Diogo Jota before the hour mark despite his initial attempt to continue.
The Uruguayan was on scoresheet converting a long pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold up front to open the scoring early for the Reds — is now a doubt for the Reds meeting with Real.
Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday night before traveling to Crystal Palace next Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Klopp admitted the striker may have been injured after taking a hard hit.
"The bad news is Darwin has something on his shoulder," the German told reporters. "We will see. In that situation, I don’t know what he whistled at to be honest, against him.
"In the end he had to go off with a shoulder issue and we need further assessments. I don't know in the moment. In the moment it’s painful. Hopefully it’s just painful and nothing more."
