Liverpool have been dealt a major setback concerning Virgil van Dijk's injury
The defender suffered the injury during the club's 3-1 defeat to the Bees in the Premier League on Monday.
The problem is considered to be more severe than anticipated, and may keep him out for an extended period of time.
Van Dijk will now have a scan to determine the full extent of the injury, however, regardless of the results, Jurgen Klopp will have a defensive dilemma without his primary center-back. Van Dijk only appeared for 45 minutes in the loss at the Gtech Community Stadium. He was substituted at halftime.
Klopp had hoped that Van Dijk's condition would enable him to return quickly following the loss in London. The Dutchman's problem is just one of many injuries that have plagued Klopp's team, including that of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Arthur Melo, James Milner and Roberto Firmino.
The Reds boss said after the 3:1 defeat at Brentford: 'Virgil felt a little bit his muscle, but he said he's fine and he's a very good judge of these things.
'I didn't want to take any risk. The physios looked quite happy when I said I didn't want to take a risk. It's not an injury, he just felt the intensity.'
