Liverpool have an agreement in principle to sign Enzo Fernandez, according to reports
Liverpool may have won the competition for Argentina and Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandes, "agreing" a deal ahead of a June 2023 move, according to new reports from South America.
Fernandes, 21, moved to Benfica in July after promotion with South American giants River Plate. However, the midfielder appears ready to accept his latest big-money move after Argentinian outlet La Capital claimed he performed well for Lionel Scaloni's side at the World Cup, prompting Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool in action.
Anfield officials, still led by outgoing sporting director Julian Ward, are believed to have struck a deal with Benfica to bring Fernandes to Merseyside in June. The report claims the Reds struck early to avoid expected interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.
Fernandez was named the Young Player of the World Cup won by his nation, and if reports about an agreement are to be true , it p .. for Liverpool to dodge a rise in his valuation that could come following his World Cup success.
The publication wrote: "Liverpool accelerated the efforts to incorporate Enzo Fernández and has already signed a pre-agreement with Benfica, the Portuguese club that has the federative rights of the young midfielder of the Argentine national team, who earned a place among the starters of Lionel Scaloni's team during the World Cup in Qatar.
"The English club in this way anticipated two other greats in the Premier League, Manchester United and Manchester City, institutions that had also planned to add the former River and Defense and Justice since June 2023."
