Liverpool have been handed a boost in their bid to land Cody Gakpo in January
Gakpo has been a Liverpool transfer target for a while now. Before the World Cup the Reds had shown interest in signing the PSV star.
Gakpo is still viewed as one of the best performers in the World Cup despite Holland's failure to progress through the tournament's Quarterfinals.
It's understood that Liverpool were in a hot pursuit for Gakpo's signature during the summer transfer window, with the forward not willing to move to save his form while the World Cup was ahead.
Manchester United are also a keen admirers of Gakpo, with the Red Devils deemed as favourite to land the forward.
But , a recent report from Sky journalist Dharmesh Sheth has troubled the Manchester bitter rivals having stated that 'they're very cautious of complying with financial fair play rules'.
Sheth told Sky Sports: “Aside of whether they want to sign any players during January, they’re very conscious of complying with Financial Fair Play rules.
“I think there’s every chance they won’t sign anyone in the January transfer window.
PSV will be expecting a record transfer fee if they are to allow Cody Gakpo to leave the club. 💰

"I know that’s not what Manchester United fans might want to hear, but I think there’s a long-term strategy in place with United and a lot of the clubs where they always seem to focus on the summer transfer window, and January is almost looked at as an emergency option – and I don’t think United are at that stage where it’s an emergency option."
