Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan has ruled out a future move to Liverpool and a reunion with his former manager Jurgen Klopp
The Germany international, whose contract expires next summer, was signed by the Reds boss to Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and spent four seasons at the Signal Iduna Park.
The 32-year-old later followed Klopp into the Premier League in June 2016, when Pep Guardiola first signed him after the Spaniard took over as City boss. Completing the £20m move saw him snub a reunion with Klopp at Anfield in the process.
It remains to be seen whether the midfielder will stay at the Etihad after his contract expires next summer. While his future is uncertain, he has ruled out a move to title rivals Liverpool despite Klopp's presence at the club and the Reds' need for a midfield overhaul.
Gundogan told German magazine Kicker: "I think I can rule out that happening. Everyone knows how much I like and appreciate Kloppo.
"But I’ve been at City for a few years now. And now as City captain to rival Liverpool? No, I can not imagine [it]."
