Van den Berg joined Schalke 04 on loan during the summer transfer window and has made an impressive start with the Bundesliga club.
The Dutch centre-half started four league games after arriving late in the transfer window and was involved in Sunday's 3-2 win over Augsburg.
Unfortunately, according to Schalke's Twitter page, as the tweet below shows, Vandenberg has been hospitalized after suffering an ankle injury.
The tweet, translated into English, read: "Sep Vandenberg is on his way to the hospital with a suspected ankle injury. Sepp, our prayers for you!"
Liverpool and Schalke will be praying that the injury isn't too serious, but being hospitalized mid-match is never a good sign.
Vandenberg received treatment on the field and was then taken off a stretcher and taken directly to the hospital for further treatment.
