Following Liverpool's 4-0 defeat to Manchester United, Roy Keane made his own prediction about his old club ahead of the new season
New Old Trafford boss Erik Ten Hag made a positive early impression after steering United to an unexpected 4-0 win over Liverpool earlier this week to kick off their pre-season campaign.
The Dutchman is still working with the bulk of a squad that limped to United's worst-ever finish in the Premier League era last term, with Dutch full-back Tyrell Malacia currently the club's sole summer recruit .
While their rivals have splashed the cash, it's been a relatively quiet transfer window for Manchester United , Keane's longest-served employers.
Questioned about who wins the Premier League next season, the former Manchester United skipper said: "The manager no doubt will be given money to spend, how he recruits, four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing. But I still don’t see United competing with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet."
On Chelsea's title credentials after signing Sterling, Keane added: "I don’t think they will close the gap. I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruitment, but you can’t look beyond Liverpool and Man City."
Keane expects Manchester City to reign supreme again after they captured Erling Haaland ; arguably Europe's most prolific striker. He continued: "Brilliant players, they’ve obviously improved with an unbelievable striker [Haaland] and they’ve got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola]."
