Joe Gomez has labelled speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid and Aston Villa earlier this year "flattering"
The 25-year-old who struggled for minutes in his preferred position at centre-back last season has saw his status demoted to fourth choice behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate under the watch of Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking exclusively to the ECHO's and Lfc rumour's Ian Doyle in Singapore last week, Gomez spoke out for the first time about the supposed interest in clubs wanting to prise him away from Anfield.
The Liverpool defender exposed insisted a move away from Anfield was never in his thoughts.
"I can't dispute I heard about these rumours," he said. "But until things are concrete with my representatives, I take it all with a pinch of salt. Any interest is flattering, but I don’t really see it like as that much of a distraction because until I make my decision, the external noise is just that – external. Once I got my head around what I wanted to do, my signing is me understanding the challenge and wanting to rise to it."
Gomez recently committed his long-term future to Liverpool by signing a new and improved five-year contract earlier this month.
