Liverpool are no more expected to sign Gavi this summer after Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted they are "very close" to agreeing a new contract with the teenager
As reported by the Liverpool ECHO, Liverpool were willing to activate the release clause of Gavi who impressed at the heart of Barcelona's midfield in 2021-22 - making 47 appearances in all competitions.
Gavi has only a year left on his Barcelona contract.
And now it has appeared that Laporta has quashed speculation linking the 17-year-old with a move to Anfield when he said: "We are very close to reaching an agreement with Gavi to extend his contract... we are optimistic about the renewal of Gavi. We want him to continue at Barca."
