Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has blamed Jack Grealish for Mo Salah's contract complications with the club
Jack Grealish moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2021 |
Salah's contract ends next summer and the Egyptian is yet to agree an extension.
The Golden boot winner is now being tipped to leave Anfield as a free agent next summer after promising the club that he will stay put next season.
Prior to the Reds Champions League final against Real Madrid, Salah admitted whatever happens, he will remain a Liverpool player next season.
But it doesn't end the saga that his future after next season has to be decided, and Lawrenson believes Manchester City’s signing of Grealish, for £100m from Aston Villa last summer, making him Britain’s most expensive footballer of all-time, created the problem between the Egyptian and Liverpool.
"The real issue began when City signed Jack Grealish for £100m and everybody knows his wages," Lawrenson told 888sport . “Mo’s agent probably then thought, well if Grealish is going there for £100m then my boy – who is a much better player and scores tons of goals – should at the very least be on what Grealish is."
