Aurelien Tchouameni is Real Madrid's new midfielder after an €80m transfer fee was agreed with Monaco
Tchouameni was at the top of Jurgen Klopp's wanted list this summer amid links with a move to both Liverpool and Real Madrid. But the 22-year-old , who had also been touted as a target for Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, decided on a move to the Bernabeu.
Real will forked out a huge sum of €100m which consists an €80m up-front fee and 20 million euros in add-ons.
According to the Daily Mirror Jurgen Klopp personally contacted Tchouameni about a move to Anfield before the player's decision to join the Los Blancos.
But now already established as one of Carlo Ancelotti's players in the Spain capital, the France international has explained why other suitors weren't lucky for his service: "As soon as Real Madrid arrived on the scene, I did not hesitate. I want to leave a mark on football and the best club for this is Real Madrid. It's the best decision for me."
He added: "When Madrid called, I didn't hesitate and I talked about it with my family."
Revealing his compatriot and former Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe was trying to persuade him to join PSG, Tchouameni said: "Kylian decided to stay at PSG and he already knew that I was going to leave Monaco and wanted to know if I could go to PSG, but I told him I wanted Madrid and he understood perfectly."
