Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final after the Spanish side's magical win against Manchester City
Karim Benzema celebrates against Man City at Bernabeu |
Wednesday night Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Manchester City saw one of the most remarkable comebacks in football history. A 6-5 aggregate scoreline from 3-5 down at injury time.
Riyad Mahrez strike had looked to have secured City's progression to Paris before Real's Rodrygo doubled at the stoppage.
Karim Benzema penalty in extra-time won the game for the newly crowned La Liga champions as the Frenchman scored his 43rd goal of the season.
Madrid will play Liverpool in the final in Paris on Saturday, May 28 in a repeat of the 2018 Champions League showpiece.
After Liverpool's semi-final second-leg win against Villarreal on Tuesday, Salah had said he wanted to face the Spanish capital club.
"I want to play Madrid, I have to be honest. City is a really tough team, we played against them a few times this season," the Egyptian said.
"I think personally, I would prefer Madrid. We lost in the final to them so I want to play against them and hopefully win it."
It will be a chance at redemption for Liverpool who lost 3-1 four years ago in Kiev, with Mohamed Salah leaving the pitch in tears as he was forced off with an injury following a foul by Sergio Ramos.
