Champions League: Villarreal suffer major injury blow

Liverpool face Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals on April 27

Villarreal have suffered an injury scare ahead of their upcoming Champions League semi-final tie with Liverpool after star man Gerard Moreno was forced off through injury in a league win over Getafe on Saturday evening.

On the scoresheet in the seventh minute of the match, Moreno was later substituted shortly after the hour mark due to being in discomfort on the pitch. The 30-year-old forward has already missed 13 games this season due to two separate injury issues and could now be set for another spell on the sidelines.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not Moreno will return in time for the match at Anfield on April 27, with Villarreal manager Unai Emery unable to provide a clear indication on how long the injury will put the player on sidelines.

"Muscularly, he has noticed something," the ex-Arsenal boss confirmed on Saturday evening. "We will see how serious it is because he has suffered from a muscular injury again. Within the player's despair of having another injury, we have to work on his recovery. Repeated muscular injuries are small frustrations in small spaces of time."

Sending support to his fellow team-mate, central defender Pau Torres added: "We hope this is not serious and that he recovers quickly because we really need him."
