The Liverpool star scored the winning penalty in the shootout victory over Egypt last Sunday
Sadio Mane is to have a stadium named after him in his home city of Sedhiou after inspiring Senegal to their historic Africa Cup of Nations success.
Liverpool star Mane fired home the winning penalty in last Sunday's shootout final victory over his clubmate Mohamed Salah's Egypt, landing Senegal their first ever AFCON title .
The victory sparked jubilant scenes in the nation's capital Dakar, with Mane and teammates greeted by thousands of fans during an open top bus parade.
The team met Senegal president Macky Sall - with Mane performing one of his customary celebrations in front of him - and the squad were greeted as returning heroes.
Now Adboulaye Diop, the mayor of Sedhiou, says the football stadium in the region will be named after its favourite son.
"I would like, through this decision to give the name of Sadio Mane to the Sedhiou stadium, to translate the recognition of all the worthy sons of the region," said Diop, via RMC Sport .
"Sadio Mane honoured Senegal, the region of Sedhiou and all of Casamance. Mane amply deserves this gift."
