Jamie Carragher points out Mo Salah mistake in AFCON final

Senegal beat Egypt on penalties in the 2022 African Cup of Nations final on Sunday evening

Jamie Carragher has hit out at Egypt's decision to select Mohamed Salah as their last penalty taker in their African Cup of Nations final defeat to Senegal.

Sadio Mane missed the game's best chance after his early penalty was saved by Mohamed Abou Gabal after Salah appeared to tell the Pharaohs stopper which way to dive.

The contest finished goalless after 90 minutes and extra time, and was settled via spot kicks.

Egypt missed two of their four penalties and Senegal put away four of their five to seal victory.

Mane atoned for an earlier miss by scoring the decisive spot kick, but Carragher took to social media to criticise Egypt's decision not to position Salah higher in their order of penalties.

"That is why your best penalty taker should never go fifth. Mo Salah not taking a penalty for Egypt in a shootout in a final is madness. Also happened to Ronaldo years ago for Portugal v Spain." He tweeted.

"[it''s] someone who the manager thinks can handle pressure moments. I’m interested in if it's the manager's decision or the player's."
