Jerry Doku has explained why he snubbed Liverpool three years ago and hints at the possibility of accepting a fresh approach on his bid to play in the Premier League
Rumoured Liverpool target Jeremy Doku has admitted he's 'working hard' for a move to the Premier League.
19-year-old Doku has been a long-term Liverpool target and his parents revealed in an interview with Belgian news outlet Het Niewsblad last year that they visited the club's facilities in 2018.
Aged just 15 at the time, Doku turned down a move to Liverpool and remained at Anderlecht before he eventually joined French side Rennes in October 2020.
Now, he has his sights on a move to England as he continues to catch the attention of clubs across Europe.
"I want to do everything to become one of the best players in the world, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, in the English Premier League if possible.
"And I am working hard for that,” he told RTBF .
The forward has previously explained why he initially turned down a move to Liverpool, admitting it was 'too soon' to join a top club.
"I was going to be 16 and that was the age you can sign a pro contract. A lot of teams came to see me," Doku told Ouest-France earlier this year.
"Everyone talks about Liverpool because it was the most concrete interest but there was also Arsenal and Chelsea.
"I preferred to be careful. I know what my trajectory had to be. I know what route I needed to take and I knew at that moment I needed to stay at Anderlecht.
"As soon as I’m asked if I regret it, I always say no, because if Liverpool came to me at 15, if they like me, they’ll come back later, that’s certain. It’s up to me to be play well."
