Bayern Munich reportedly turned down the chance to sign Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane
Jurgen Klopp secured the services of both players for what can only be considered as two remarkable pieces of transfer business.
Mane was first through the doors in the summer of 2016, arriving for a fee worth £34million from Southampton. Salah then followed the next summer in a deal worth £36.9m.
The pair have been central to Liverpool's success as a side in recent years due to their goalscoring exploits, though it has now emerged that things could have been very different for the Reds.
According to German publication Bild , Salah was offered to Bayern between 2015 and 2017 while still playing for AS Roma but the Bundesliga club opted against signing him at the time.
Mane, meanwhile, could have been acquired by Bayern in 2014 while playing for Red Bull Salzburg. In the end, it was Southampton who won the race to sign the Senegalese star.
Bayern may well have already missed out on one occasion, but former CEO of the Bavarians Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has not given up hope of a potential deal for Salah.
Speaking earlier this year to ON Time Sports , Rummenigge said: "In my opinion, Salah is the [Lionel] Messi of Africa and of course he has the skills to play for the best teams in the world.
"What he [Salah] has achieved can be compared to what Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo did with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
"At the moment we don’t plan on signing Salah, but certainly it would be an honour to have him."
