Former Chelsea defender John Terry has backed Liverpool and Manchester City to rival his former club for the Premier League title this season
Chelsea legend John Terry has backed Liverpool and Manchester City to push his old side all the away in the title race this season.
Thomas Tuchel's side currently sit top of the Premier League table, three points clear of City and four ahead of Liverpool.
Despite the Blues' strong start to the campaign, Terry is wary of the quality at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
The Reds have scored a remarkable 35 goals in their 12 league matches so far, but have conceded more goals than City and Chelsea combined.
Despite not being as defensively secure as their rivals, Terry insists that their prolific forward line will keep them in the hunt for the title.
"Liverpool look a threat, they've got so many goals in them going forward," he told BeIN Sports .
"Defensively I look at Van Dijk and think I'm not sure who gets past him. We all have an off day, which he will, but at the same time they look very solid.
"Just having that threat up front, we had it at Chelsea years ago with Drogba and Robben and those type of players.
"You just feel like you’re going to outscore other teams."
However, Terry feels his old side have the edge on their title rivals because they have the strongest squad depth.
Record signing Romelu Lukaku and strike partner Timo Werner have missed the Blues’ last four league games, but they still went on to claim 10 points from a possible 12.
He added: "I think the strength and depth in their (Chelsea’s) squad looks to me by far the best in the league.
"They've coped really well without him (Lukaku) and they’ve got players who turn up and score goals as well. I’ve been really impressed how they've dealt with it.
"Having Lukaku back in the run up to Christmas will be a big boost as well."
