Harvey Elliott got injured during a tackle by Pascal Struijk in Liverpool's 3-0 against Leeds
Liverpool wonderkid Harvey Elliott was in "the best possible place" ahead of his surgery on a serious ankle injury, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.
Elliott, 18, suffered a dislocated ankle during the Reds' 3-0 victory at Leeds United on Sunday which needed to be put back into place on the Elland Road pitch.
Liverpool physio Chris Morgan described the injury as "rare" and it appears unlikely the former Fulham academy star will play again in 2021.
Klopp discussed Elliott ahead of Liverpool's Champions League opener with AC Milan and reassured the teenager was in good spirits as he prepared to go under the knife.
"I spoke to him after the game, he was in the best possible place," said Klopp of Elliott. "He knew would out for a while.
"Today he is in London and will have the surgery today. That is the next step and we wait for news on that."
