Jeremy Doku transfer problem highlighted as Reds close in on Belgian ace

Jeremy Doku is missing one crucial trait for Liverpool to make transfer move

That's according to Josh Williams of the Liverpool Echo, who believes the Rennes sensational forward 'lacks a key aspect of his game'.

Doku offers a great threat from a wide position but scored only twice in 30 appearances for Rennes in the Ligue 1 last season.

In comparison with Lille's Jonathan David, Williams said: "Liverpool don't jump on anyone who's just burst onto the scene.

"They like a fair few numbers behind the player so they have a big enough sample to judge them on, basically.

"David is only 21, but he’s got the whole of last season under his belt in Ligue 1 and the whole of the season before under his belt in the Belgian top flight, and the whole of the season before that.

"That’s three full seasons and in these seasons - and this is league-only - he’s scored double figures.

"He got 13 last season for Lille, the season before he got 18 for Gent and the season before that he got 12.

"I should say as well, three of those goals have been penalties.

"Over the course of three seasons there, he’s got 40 non-penalty goals and 15 assists to his name.

"That’s an attacker who you could label as having a fair amount of output to his game like another player I’ve seen linked with Liverpool, and it looks very exciting, is Jeremy Doku.

"But if you look at Doku’s numbers, he’s nowhere near as effective when it comes to actually putting the ball in the net and actually delivering with output and impacting score lines.

"He’s obviously extremely dangerous, but Liverpool usually wants players in the final third who are just absolute output merchants.

"I think David is not far off that really. You could probably put that on his name considering he’s had three consecutive seasons with double-figure goals. He’s one to watch."
