The agent of Gini Wijnaldum has lifted the lid on what happened behind the scenes with midfielder's move from Liverpool to Paris Saint-Germain
The Dutchman representative has opened up on how the midfielder ended up moving from Liverpool to ParisSaint-Germain.
Wijnaldum agreed at the end of last season to join French side PSG on a free transfer once his Anfield contract expires at the end of the month.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had wanted the player, who he signed for £25million from Newcastle United in July 2016, to stay with the club where he won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
But while confirming Liverpool offered him a new deal, Wijnaldum's agent Humphry Nijman explains the player ultimately wanted to move elsewhere.
"He had a fantastic time at Liverpool," said Nijman. "It started when we visited the house of Mr Klopp and a plan was made that they wanted to win the championship and the Champions League, and that was achieved.
"That was fantastic for the fans in Liverpool, fantastic for the manager and fantastic for the player. The player was really happy they achieved their goals.
"His contract was expiring so he was a free agent after this season.
"Of course, attempts were made (to keep him at Liverpool) but he made another choice."
