Thomas Tuchel admits tension before Alisson surprise moment

Alisson Becker helped Liverpool keep their European hopes alive with a last-gasp winner against West Brom on Sunday

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has opened up on how he returned home to find the game was 1-1 and avoided watching it, only to discover a short while later Alisson had secured the Reds all three points.

The Reds won a corner in the final minute of stoppage time and Alisson rose to glance Trent Alexander-Arnold's delivery into the far corner of the net.

The victory moved Liverpool a point behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the table and means the race for the top four is heading into the final week of the season.

"I came home in the afternoon and I switched on the TV and saw 1-1," Tuchel said.

"I thought, 'oh, that wouldn't be a bad result'. I was a bit superstitious and I did not follow it.

"I checked on my phone in the 95th minute and it was still 1-1. I checked one minute later and I realised that superstitions don't always work, or maybe I made the wrong decision if they do work!

"As I said, it doesn't make things boring. It was a fantastic header in the last minute. I saw it today and it makes things pretty interesting and tight. But still, it is in our hands.

"Someone asked me after the final if it was a major setback ahead of Tuesday, no it was the Arsenal game. It was our fault that it is so close again. We left the door open and Liverpool put their foot into the door. This is what they do.

"They are a strong team and anyway, we had a huge effort to overcome them before. It was a huge gap but we did what we could to overtake them. We can be aware of this huge performance that we did so far but we want to finish the job.

"We need to re-focus today and forget all the other results and rely on ourselves because we are in a lucky situation where we can rely on ourselves and not look at other grounds."
