Liverpool could face a transfer battle with old foes Manchester United over Ibrahima Konate
The RB Leipzig defender has been strongly linked with a potential move to Anfield over the past week or so and is believed to be on a five-man shortlist that Reds chiefs have drawn up regarding centre-back targets.
However, United are also said to be looking to recruit in that area with Eurosport claiming that Konate is also on their radar.
The Sport media wrote: "As previously discussed in this column , Sevilla's Jules Kounde and Villarreal’s Pau Torres are prime targets. They [ Manchester United ] are looking towards Rafael Varane's situation at Real Madrid in case he becomes available and they have an eye on RB Leipzig's Ibrahima Konate - who is being heavily pursued by Liverpool. Sources say at least two other names are also being looked at too, and could emerge as serious targets in the coming weeks.
"Konate, 21, will cost around £34 million and will be allowed to leave if the right offer lands. United will have to decide quickly whether to join the pursuit or stick to the targets they had been more closely pursuing."
