Champions League: Liverpool receive potentially important boost ahead of Anfield showdown with Madrid

Liverpool go into the second-leg trailing 3-1 against Spanish giants Real Madrid

Real Madrid have suffered a potential injury blow ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash with Liverpool on Wednesday.

Lucas Vazquez, who played as a right-back in the Los Blancos' 3-1 win over the Reds last Tuesday, was withdrawn in the first-half against Barcelon on Saturday night following a collision with Sergio Busquets in El Clasico, with Alvaro Odriozola his replacement.

The Spaniard, who is an orthodox winger, has been filling in on the right side of a back four with Dani Carvajal out through injury.

Zinedine Zidane's first-choice right-back Carvajal is a doubt for the clash at Anfield on Wednesday after appearing to take a step back in his recovery.

The Spain defender started to train with his team-mates in the last few weeks, but was pictured training alone in the last few sessions which has raised doubts over his fitness.

The extent of Vazquez's injury is not yet known, but the fact that he was unable to carry on might make him a doubt for the trip to Merseyside next week.
