Ian Wright has branded the sale of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool 'the worst transfer off all time'
Philippe Coutinho left Liverpool for Barcelona back in 2018 in a record breaking transfer for English football.
The £142million fee agreed by Barcelona for the Brazilian helped the Reds funded the acquisitions of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson and it’s generally considered the transfer decision that help propelled the Merseysiders to trophy-laden campaigns from 2018 to present.
Ian Wright, speaking on his Wrighty's House Podcast believe Coutinho met his undoing at Barcelona.
The former Arsenal man said: "One of the maddest things I’ve seen is Coutinho playing for Bayern, winning the Champions League and then going back to Barcelona."
It was then put to Wright that the deal with Liverpool is surely the worst transfer of all time, by co-host Musa Okwonga.
He said: "That has to be the worst transfer of all time, just in terms of the amount spent, the 8-2 capped it off, it’s the worst transfer of all time."
