Jordan Henderson has undergone surgery for the groin problem he picked up last weekend in Merseyside Derby defeat
The Liverpool skipper was filling in at centre-back once again and pulled up midway through the match. He was eventually substituted after initially trying to play on.
After scans showed damage to the adductor, Henderson underwent successful surgery this week and will begin rehabilitation immediately.
There was an option for Henderson to recover without a procedure but after consulting with the club's medical staff earlier this week, it was deemed that surgery was the better route in his recovery.
Liverpool have not provided an official timescale on the Liverpool captain's return, though he is expected to play again this season.
