Thiago Alcantara training plan as Liverpool prepare for Newcastle trip

Jurgen Klopp delivers the latest on Thiago Alcantara ahead of tomorrow's trip to Newcastle

Jurgen Klopp has outlined the training plan that will be Thiago Alcantara's pathway back into the Liverpool team.

The midfielder hasn't played since completing 90 minutes of a fiery Merseyside derby with Everton back on October 17.

Richarlison's reckless challenge - one that saw the Brazil forward shown a straight red card - has kept Thiago sidelined for the Reds since.

In total, the former Bayern Munich star has missed 16 matches since the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park but is back in training ahead of his comeback.

Thiago was part of the pack who trained at the club's AXA Centre on December 24 before taking part in a light session on Christmas Day.

James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri were back on the bench for the 1-1 draw with West Brom on Sunday, but Thiago remained on the shelf.

Klopp has now detailed the process Thiago will have to complete before he is considered for Wednesday's trip to Newcastle United.

"Thiago has trained in part with the team so far, but on Friday (Christmas Day), he trained the full session," Klopp said.

"But it was a reduced session so we couldn't do that [full session].

"He just has to be part of team training [more]. It's not about being part of team training one day and then you can play football in the Premier League.

"So it looks quite promising at the moment but I cannot say more about it, to be honest. I don't know.

"I think the plan was that if he trains [on Monday] completely normally then we will see."
