BT Sport pundit Paul Scholes has commented on the latest Premier League title twist and how it affects Liverpool
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Liverpool were the big winners in the Premier League title race on Boxing Day - without even kicking a ball.
Jurgen Klopp's side are in action on Sunday afternoon when they entertain struggling West Bromwich Albion.
They will have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after Leicester City and Manchester United, second and third going into the weekend's game, played out a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Jamie Vardy notched a later equaliser after Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes had twice given United the lead either side of a Harvey Barnes strike.
And Scholes, now a pundit for BT Sport, believes Liverpool remain the benchmark as they look to retain the title for the first time since 1984.
"It’s going to be difficult for any team to get near Liverpool," said Scholes.
"It was a great result for Liverpool. It was a good game.
"Leicester were the better team but Manchester United had the better chances. Overall it was a fair result.
"Both teams could have won the game but Manchester United had the better chances."
