Premier League official David Coote has been dropped from VAR duties for the first time this season after the Merseyside derby
It will be the first round of fixtures this season in which Coote, who failed to advise that Jordan Pickford be dismissed for his reckless challenge on Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, has not refereed or been the VAR.
Liverpool were calling for clarification over the incident that saw van Dijk limped off early in the first-half, in a 2-2 derby draw which also saw Jordan Henderson's goal ruled out for offside at stoppage.
Coote will now be appointed fourth official for West Ham against Manchester City on Saturday, and refereeing body PGMOL will give him a Championship game next week, it is understood.
