Liverpool are backed to sign Kalidou Koulibaly only for a decent fee this summer
Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol is urging Reds to sign Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly who currently is on the hot chase of Manchester City.
City's pursuit of Koulibaly has been a lengthy one, stretching back to last summer following Vicent Kompany's departure.
A potential fee have proven troublesome in the Cityzens' recent attempts to sign the Senegalese defender after Napoli turned down an initial approach around £64million.
Nicol thinks the Naples doggedness over a lucrative offer for Koulibaly should be a thing of concern to the Reds who also have shown interest in the 29-year-old in recent times.
"If the money is right [it’s a no-brainer]. But clearly, they’re asking for silly money," he told ESPN FC.
"The chairman at Napoli is well known for being tough to deal with. If it’s silly money it won’t happen, but I’d like to see it happen.
"The guy is absolutely in the prime of his career, he’s a great centre-back. Any team on the planet would like to have this guy, but it depends on the money.
"I think Napoli will be asking for too much money, so I don’t think it'll happen. But it would be nice if it did."
