Carragher believes the signing of the Portuguese forward has fixed the one area he was concerned about for the Reds this summer
Liverpool have made a strong start to their Premier League title defence with three straight wins, including Monday night's convincing victory over Arsenal.
After signing from Wolves, Jota made his league debut for the Reds off the bench against the Gunners and scored the third in a 3-1 win.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said he feels Jota can act as reliable cover for Sadio Mane, who was the player he felt Liverpool needed a back-up for.
He said: "I've always felt like Liverpool needed to strengthen, bring in cover for Mane more than anywhere else.
"If Salah is out, you can put Mane on the right - Mane’s played up front, Salah’s played up front - it wasn’t necessarily a fixed position, it’s just the rest of them can move about if Jota comes in on the left."
He added: "There’s no passengers in this Liverpool team - it’s like a machine.
"That's the big thing about him, it was mentioned by Pep Ljinders, Klopp’s number two, he’s a pressing monster.
"So, when Liverpool are looking at stats on attacking players, we come on here, most people probably look at goals and assists, but the big thing from Liverpool is pressing from the front.
"Liverpool’s centre-forward scored one home goal last season, but he plays every week because he presses, wins the ball back and he's part of that machine that we’ve mentioned today.
"Jota’s got off to a great start with the goal, but a big part to it will be what he does off the ball and if you don’t do anything off the ball for Liverpool - even if you’ve got a few goals - Klopp will not accept it."
