The Reds are eager to tie down the Dutchman to a new improved contract to scare off interest from other heavyweight suitors.

Reports earlier stated that Paris Saint-Germain have tabled a deal that would see Van Dijk earn a £280k weekly wages if he takes his career to the Parc de Princes.

But according to The Sun,  the Netherlands international is happy at Liverpool and will sign a five-year deal worth £57million when the Reds win the Premier League.

The new Liverpool deal would see the 28-year-old earn 220k weekly, becoming the highest paid player in the club ahead of Mohamed Salah who's paid £200,000.

Van Dijk has appeared in every minute of Liverpool's Premier League campaign this season, with  the Reds closing-in on the title after thirty years drought.

The centre-back became the world's most expensive defender when he signed for Liverpool from Southampton in the winter of 2018.

Following his arrival that season he helped Jurgen  Klopp's men reached the Champions League final where they lost to Real  Madrid on a 3-1 defeat.

Since then Jurgen  Klopp Liverpool side have gone from strength to strength winning the competition the later year and two other major international championships.
