Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to attend the Ballon d'Or awards for a second year
His absence left questions for Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk to answer during the Monday night awards.
While at the red carpet, prior to entering the main event, Van Dijk was questioned what he made of Ronaldo's absence at the award ceremony for a second year in a row.
The Dutch defender responded by questioning whether the 34-year-old was truly in the race to win at the event anyway.
When asked what it would be like having one of his rivals not show up, the 28-year-old replied: "Was he a rival then?"
But England broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan believe van Dijk response wasn't kindly served and have stood to the defence of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
