Alan Shearer has claimed Liverpool have not been impressive at the back this season
Liverpool maintained a 100 per cent start to the Premier League season after goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino helped them to a 2-1 victory over Southampton last weekend.
The Saints managed to bounce back from a two-goal late defeat to scoring after Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian gifted Danny Ings a goal with the Southampton striker still almost close to equalizing before the end of the match.
And Shearer appearing as Match of the Day analyst was critical of Adrian following the goal, and also the overall Liverpool defensive performance.
"Obviously playing in Istanbul in the week, extra time, so tiredness without doubt was there. But they have looked pretty dodgy defensively and these are some of the reasons why.
"Good ball in, that should be in the back of the net. He gets in between [Joel] Matip and [Trent] Alexander-Arnold and he has to score there.
"Defensively from a corner, the keeper should perhaps come for it, but [Maya] Yoshida gets above [Virgil] Van Dijk, a decent save in the end.
"Keeper gets away with it here first half. Southampton did really well and created chances and pressed and worked and closed them down.
"He [Adrian] didn’t get away with it in the second half. Ings closes him down, in the back of the net, poor mistake.
"And then after cruising for much of the second half Liverpool, they were fortunate to come away with the three points.
"This again was a good ball in from [Yan] Valery, he got in behind Van Dijk and that again is a sitter, should be in the back of the net.
"For all they were good going forward Liverpool, they did look poor at the back again. They conceded 14 shots today and that only happened once last season."
