This was according to Jonathan Walters who made the claim after speaking with his old team-mate and former United defender Phil Bardsley who spent time with Ferguson during the week.
Walters opened that the legendary Manchester United manager believes the Reds have the advantage to be crowned champions over Manchester City with the Cityzens still having Manchester United to play in their remaining five games.
Walters told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast: "I was chatting with Phil Bardsley and I'm gonna drop a name here, he was sat with Sir Alex Ferguson. He sat with him and he thinks Liverpool are going win it.
"He thinks Liverpool because he thinks United will get something out of the City game."
Liverpool are currently two points and a game clear off Manchester City and the Cityzen would first have to defend their title run against Totteham at the weekend after both teams have showdown in the Champions League last-8 on Tuesday night.
