Star man ruled out of Bayern v Liverpool second leg Champions League clash

Huge setback for the Reds ahead of Champion League 2nd leg as star man is confirmed sidelined for the clash

The German Reds has been dealt huge upset with news that Arjen Robben will be sidelined against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Robben has been out of action for Bayern since scoring twice against Benfica in November, but picked up a calf injury in training this week while preparing for comeback.

Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has confirmed the ace winger won't feature, while French forward Kingsley Coman, who has suffered a thigh problem last month will return for the clash.

Kovac told a press conference ahead of their Bundelsiga game with Wolfsburg on Saturday: "Arjen Robben injured his calf and won't make the squad.

"Coman is on his way back and we're hopeful for the Liverpool game. Arjen definitely won't be ready for that game. We expect [Corentin] Tolisso back at the end of this month."

Real Madrid were subdued to a 5-2 aggregate defeat by Dutch side Ajax on Tuesday and Kovac believes that the result in Madrid has vindicated his decision for praising the Dutch club after a 3-3 draw with his side in their final group game of the competition.

"I had to smile a bit," Kovac admitted.

"When we played against Ajax, some people laughed at me for thinking Ajax have a good, young, high-quality team. This shows we weren't wrong in our analysis."

Meanwhile Virgil van Dijk is set to make his comeback from suspension and it came as a boost for Jurgen Klopp's side who are also expecting the return of other important names for the big match.
