Jurgen Klopp in an interview has said Xherdan Shaqiri can be next Philippe Coutinho at Anfield
Liverpool sold Coutinho to Barcelona last winter transfer window for a club record fee after the Brazilian pushed for his dreamed move to join the La Liga giants.
Meanwhile, Klopp could strengthen his side last year from the huge fee which emerged from Coutinho's sale, signing Shaqiri for £13.5million in the summer.
Shaqiri has impressed the Kop with six goals and two assists so far this season and has done more damage coming as sub.
The Swiss international came from the bench to score twice in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United last year December and made the team staring XI in their 5-1 win over Arsenal.
Prior to the City match, Jurgen Klopp in an interview with Sky Sport pundit Gary Nevile has said Shaqiri can emulate Philippe Coutinho's class at Anfield as he gets more game time.
"We did have to find a position for Shaqiri," Klopp told Nevile.
"That's a pretty good one, we tried it in a 4-3-3, he can't play there yet as a half-space midfielder.
"You don't want to force a player into a position, you want to show his strengths, not where he isn't good.
"Xherdan's main quality is obviously offensive - creating, shooting, finishes, being between the lines - and in a half-space position, there is a lot of defensive work.
"He can do that and he gets better day by day and maybe one day, he could play it like Phil could play it in the last half year he was here."
