The Liverpool midfielder was drawn into a right-back role in their 4-3 victory over Crystal Place, that's because Alexander-Arnold is sidelined with a knee injury while Nathaneil Clyne is loaned to Bournemouth.

Milner had his first booking of the game in the 82nd minute and a reckless diving challenge on Wilfried Zaha later saw him red-carded.

BT Sport analyst and a former Red Robbie Fowler who spotted the incident said on the BT Sport Score show"I don't think he's got any complaints. The first one came when Schlupp had that header.

"This one is with Zaha, he gets there a little bit too late and takes him out. I don't think he can have too many complaints."

Meanwhile, his right hand man Dean Saunders labeled the challenge 'a stupid one' and blamed Milner for being careless to not have observed his first yellow card.

"I don't get players who do that. You're on a yellow card so stay on your feet. You can't risk it," he said.

"It's a stupid challenge. He's not meant it but surely you know you're on a yellow card and you can't go diving in on the halfway line. Stand up.

"It's a stupid challenge. If Liverpool lose a goal now he's cost them the game.

"What's he diving in there for?"
