Gordon Smith has warned Steven Gerrard of the Pressure that come with old firm rivalry with Celtic
Steven Gerrard on Tuesday confirmed he is in talks with Rangers and expects further developments on Thursday.
According to report the former Liverpool skipper has agreed a three-year contract to replace the sacked Graeme Murty at Ibrox.
Smith is undecided over whether Gerrard is the right man to lead Rangers forward.
Smith told Sky Sports.
“He could be the right man, but time will tell.
“I think he has a lot of great experience in the game, he’s a big name in football.
“This is a big job, he will realise that when he takes over, if he becomes manager.
“There’s a lot at stake and you have to have success when you’re the Rangers manager.
“When you look at the Old Firm, you are either first or last, second really isn’t acceptable to the Rangers fans.
“He will also want to know he’s got the finance and he can bring in certain players that he wants to bring in. He’ll need a budget.
“He can improve the players that are currently here, but he’ll need to bring in one or two players.”
