Klopp - Robertson good enough to be Scotland captain

Jurgen Klopp has backed Andy Robertson to become new Scotland captain

New Scotland manager Alex McLeish is looking for a new skipper following Brown's decision to retire from international football for the second time.

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney captained Scotland in their most recent international - a 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands under interim manager Malky Mackay.

But with friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary in March, Liverpool boss Klopp believes Robertson is ready to lead his country.

He said: "100% yes (he is ready). We spoke about his development, we spoke about the football things he has to do.

"I am not sure if I know plenty of the Scotland national team players, but Robbo for sure will be the future.

"He had a close relationship with all the boys here from the start so you could see he would be leading in the future. Scotland cannot make a mistake choosing Robbo.

"Being from the first line-up of Liverpool players is a message as well. There are not many Scotland players at other top clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United.

"So yes, he'd be a good choice as Scotland national team captain. If they pick him I'd have no problem with that."
