Mohamed Salah dominates Victor Moses, Aubameyang and Mane to win BBC African player of the year

Mohamed Salah named BBC's African footballer of the year

The 25-year-old has scored 19 goals in 25 appearances for Liverpool, getting on the scoresheet 13 times in the Premier League, including the Merseyside derby against Eveton on Sunday. He has also netted six times in the Champions League.

His contribution for his national team has also been outstanding.

Not only did he help Egypt make it to the final of the African Cup of Nations in Gabon, he also played a major part in his country qualifying for the World Cup for the third time in their history.

'I would like to win this award also next year,' Salah told BBC Sport after receiving his award.

'I have always followed my way, and I want everyone in Egypt to follow my way

'Since I left Egypt, in my mind, I want to be the best Egyptian ever. I work hard and try to be different from them.'

'It's well deserved,' said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. 'I am a really lucky person. I had the opportunity to work with a few outstanding players and I am happy that it is now with Mo.

'The good thing is that he is still young, there is a lot of space for improvement, a lot of potential still that we can work on, but that's how it should be. It's a big pleasure, to be honest, to work with him.'

Salah won the award ahead of Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane, future club team-mate Naby Keita of Leipzig, Chelsea's Victor Moses and Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
