Emre Can's Liverpool future uncertain - Player may leave Liverpool in january

LIVERPOOL’S hopes of convincing midfielder Emre Can to sign a new, long-term deal are fading because of the club’s refusal to insert a release clause into the German’s contract

Jurgen Klopp’s experience involving Philippe Coutinho this summer proved the value of not allowing players such get-outs, with Liverpool able to fend off Barcelona’s strong interest.

And that has convinced management to adopt a similar approach with the in-form Can, who has just entered the final year on his current terms and will be able to leave the club for nothing next summer.

In response, the 23-year-old and his advisers are insisting on precisely such a clause, to allow him to leave Anfield should one of Europe’s super powers want him in the future.

Negotiations have been on-going for many months now and the indications are that neither party is prepared to back down, making it increasingly likely that Can will not sign the new offer.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus are among the early runners linked with potential moves for the versatile German international.
